Nahh, he's gonna attach it to his chair and destroy a few snobby golf courses... Flames Gimp, Count me in, nothing like destruction of property!!!
edit: check Home Depot for tool rentals, I know they rent out roto-tillers, they destory grass and mix up top soil at the same time. As for removing grass, I don't know...

Guess who grabbed a Home Depot price list the other day?
Sod cutter from Home Depot is $70 for 4 hours, $100 per day, $360 per week, and $1080 for the month. No indication how much the attachement for your chair is.
Is this for the back yard? Aren't you just planning on laying some loam down? I'm just thinking the loam could go right over the old sod, and then lay the new sod over top. The old sod will eventually break down as fertilizer.

lol thats expensive, home depot is a rip off.
ya it's for the back yard, I dont want the whole yard to re-sodded, going for a small area of grass and maybe rock garden or some ****. I want low maintenance.

I'm no expert, but if it's dead old grass I don't think you need to rent a sod cutter. It probably doesn't qualify as "sod" any more and I doubt it will cut into nifty little rolls like in the picture.

I googled "getting rid of an old lawn" and it suggested killing all the grass with something like Roundup and then dethatching and raking up all the dead stuff.

If it's already totally dead though you might just need it power-raked to hell and, dragged away and then covered up.

it's not dead, its just full of holes and I have a helluva time even wheelin out there. if you want to come rake 1500 sq. ft of grass, be my guest. Thats why I want to rent a machine, my yard is Huge.
