Back on topic... Little bit disappointing to see Horak see such little ice towards the end of the game. I know you are trying to tie it up but I also heard something about the team rewarding hard work and good play. I thought Horak was the best Flame on the ice for the first 40 minutes of the game, at the very least he was the only one moving his feet. I'm not suggesting you give him 12 minutes of ice time in the third but heck, put him out with the top two lines for a shift or two to try and inject some energy. At the very least bench Comeau and give Horak his shifts.
I just can't wrap my head around the allergy this team seems to have to young players.

Not sure if it has been discussed but how was bouwmeester tonight? Was he exceptionally good or something? Missed the game and saw he was 1st star despite being held pointless.

I've viewed this season as a lost one for the Flames franchise from day one, so I wasn't terribly saddened by the lockout. At this point, I'm simply looking for them to build a truly competitive atmosphere and franchise that is consistent from game to game and period to period.
So far the compete level is there, but the consistency isn't.
I feel very strongly that the Flames need to trade Iginla, Kiprusoff, and anyone anywhere near 35 on this roster to get some pieces. Everyone else could be part of a winning solution in the future and I don't want to trade everything away unless we are truly at the bottom of the barrel. Until that happens, they have to keep trying.
This game is indicative of where the Flames are: a mediocre team with noticeable holes in the lineup that gets exposed once in a while by teams that are more complete. That is all there is and I refuse to get upset about the state of the current team because I know there are better things on the horizon. I have faith in the new era of Flames drafting and development, and I know that eventually we will look like the Blues we saw tonight. It might take a while and we will have to be patient, but it will happen.
Doesn't help deal with the loss tonight. Oh well, maybe I'll try that Maple Crown that everyone has been raving about.

I would be fully in favour of trading Iginla, letting Babchuk, Comeau, and Stajan go and reinvest that 14 million into going after both Getzlaf and Perry.

Iginla looked totally dejected in interviews afterwards.
He takes way too much crap on this site. After 1200 games, it is Time the team around him picked up their compete level once in a while.

again, i can list the suckness of the flames, which many posters have mentioned and i agreed. but it doesn't take away my views that the refs were inconsistent (i explicitly point out the inconsistency when it comes to calling interference).

Honestly... Looking at where the Flames are heading....and money being equal, do you really believe that is feasible? ( re: Getzlaf and Perry)

Getzlaf could be a Flame, Perry - never!

Iginla...the quintessential example of a really good guy in a tough situation. I hope management does the right thing and give him whatever he wants. If he wants to go? Make it happen. If he wants to finish his career here? Make it happen.
We all need to realize that although he's only 35, he's got a lot of miles on that body and the team can no longer ride him through the season.

I really meant they should have perfect eyesight. They didn't see alot of things tonight.

You media people who were at the game, was there some kind of mini-Jihad to get Bouwmeester first star?
Not sure if he should've been first star over Perron...

At this point, that is definitely this team's achilles heel. Easily the worst part of their game.

NHL.com's official game summary has Bouwmeester as the third star.

There are some new/young enough faces on this team that look somewhat promising (Hudler Cervenka, Backlund, Horak, Brodie, Sven, no superstars..but pieces), but I'm concerned that the aroma of this team is going to rub off on these guys too.
The soul of this team is inherently flawed. Just start over. It's done. Move on.

I agree with the general sentiment that the team should have had an overhaul long before they actually bothered to do so. Philadelphia rebuilt in a day.

Nilson got us a 2nd round pick that turned into Nieuwendyk.
Nieuwendyk got us a scrub and a 1st round pick that turned into Iginla.
The time to trade him for all the tea in China was 3, maybe 4 years ago.
It's officially time to rebuild. This season. And we simply wont get as much as we hope for, or need.

WHy does a rebuild need to have iginla traded as part of it?
Too many fans equate rebuilding the team with trading Jarome.
