Maybe the fight was to fire up his teammates and not to "show Rhett Warner". Jeez, can't believe you people.

Yes, Yes, and maybe

Warrener is a ######.
Iginla knows what he needs to do and I would put alot more emphasis on Hartley/Gelinas telling him that he wasn't good enough before he cares about what superstar Rhett has to say. It will be a happy, happy day when Rhett is no longer an on air personality.

I think there's little questioning the effect that Rhett had on Iggy (evidence suggests it did have an effect). What I think more people are questioning is Rhett's integrity.
Let's put it this way, if Rhett was playing for the Maple Leafs right now, and he made that comment how would you react? Honest and refreshing? I don't think so. I think the next time he played the Flames he'd get a few knuckle sandwiches.
Not a fan at all. Even guys who write books about the NHL try to leave names out.

So he put Hasek and Kipper ahead of Iginla and Bure. He played with them and you didn't. Would you feel better if he lied and said Iginla just to kiss his ass? Hasek in particular is closer to the top goaltenders ever than Iginla is to top forwards and when Kipper was on his game he was pretty special as well. Remember there was a disconnect between the forwards and defensemen on this team especially under Keenan and it's possible Rhett has first hand experience with some of negatives of Iginla's game.

Did he run over your puppy?
It's weird how many people take someone rightfully calling Iginla out so personally.

The Iginla fan boys on this site remind me of Justin Bieber fans.

Some people aren't taking it personally, most aren't. I just don't like how scummy and hypocritical Warrener is. If his teammate was called a joke when he was still playing he wouldn't have nice things to say to the media member that said it.

Warrener needs to understand the difference between drinking with his buddies talking hockey in the garage and being on the air. The guy's a moron. I have no love for Ryan Smyth but this is garbage stuff.
These comments will probably get him some play on TSN though, which I have suspected is his goal all along.
|
hahahaha. He made TSN again! 2 nites in a row.
Ok Rhett, now who gives an F about Smyth and the Oilers, I want you to call out Ken King and Murray Edwards!

That sort of depends though, it's different when it comes from a career journalist versus a retired teammate.

So you agree with me that is seems Warrener doesn't really like Iginla?
and it's not secret that he doesn't like Keenan

Nobody has taken more flack than I have over the years for calling out Kipper when he's on his bad years. Fans get emotionally attached and even though I don't I understand others do and it clouds their judgement.

No. I simply said just because they played together it doesn't mean that Warrener has to view him as the best player he's ever played with. Holy smokes some of you are making mountains out of mole holes here.

Warrener's assessment of Iggy was brutally honest, but there was no malice in it.
Too many people tip toe around Iggy's ego/pride. That's where the whole "country club" atmosphere that has plagued this team comes from.

I was simply making a point that Warrener never really goes out of his way to praise Iginla, like he does with Kipper. He played with Iginla when Iginla was one of the top forwards in the league, you think he would have been mentioned as one of the better players Warrener played with but he wasn't.
Leads me to believe that the two of them don't get along. Not judging Warrener, his comments are fine, just stating...

Rhett also said that Iginla being the leader on the ice he is would always come to the aid of any player if there was an on ice scrum after the whistle. "He would go to war for anyone on his team" was his exact words. Like we have seen him do several times.
Rhett said that D.Sutter noticed this early on and would deliberately have certain players like Warrener, Regehr start a skirmish after the whistle and Iggy would get involved and for the rest of the game he would play with that chip on his shoulder.
This 2013 team and the 2012 roster hasn't been involved in many after whistle incidents. They have mostly just skated away very much unlike past Flames teams.
I can't help but think this is a tactic the Flames coaching staff should take advantage of for Iggy.
We all know Iggy plays more fierce when someone pisses him off.
Announcers for years have been saying during Flames broadcast's one thing that __________ shouldn't do is wake up Iginla.

Well come on man, Jesus. I don't get emotionally involved at all. I've often said, to the chagrin of many, how it's just a game and I don't take the losses badly and enjoy the wins. You're basically saying however that anyone who gets emotionally involved is seeing it one way while you are detached so you're seeing it the correct way.
That's just not true. The pretension might not be intended but that last post was soaking in it.
I have no doubt Warrener truly feels what he said is correct I just think it's scummy. If Warrener had a teammate that say former player Kevin Weeks called a joke, Warrener wouldn't like it and would be pissed. Now that he's on the other side, he seems to think it's okay. Hundreds of former hockey players (or anyone of any profession) have stories about things that happen behind closed doors but you don't go telling tale out of school. It comes across as attention seeking and I question Warrener's motives. He seems like he's angling for a prime time gig.
I have a lot more respect for Jamie McLennen, who has been critical of the Flames in the past, who uses a well thought out approach and reasoning then the kind of stories you carelessly share with buddies Friday night over beers.
