Win and you stay in. No problem with that.

2) They wanted some insurance better than a career AHL backup in case Irving did not work out.

It really is not that hard of a move to figure out. Before Taylor played with the Heat he had played a total of 61 games in the AHL over his six year professional career. That is an average of just over 10 games a year. It is a crying shame the morons running this team did not roll the dice on a guy who averaged 10 AHL games (and 3 minutes a year in the NHL to be fair) a year to be the backup.

I like what Hartley is doing here, I'm somewhat confused about the entire goaltending situation in Calgary.

Irving and MacDonald are off contract at the end of the year and Kipper is APPARENTLY going to be back within 2 weeks. What will happen at that point? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the waiver claim mean that MacDonald has to be with the NHL team for the remainder of the season?

This in turn means Irving gets sent down for the rest of the season barring another goaltender injury right? (Unless MacDonald is scratched all season, which is also a waste if they can do that).

So what could be going on, do you think Irving could be part of a trade and is being showcased right now? What can they logically do with the situation they're in.

Also, Danny Taylor is 26 years old, he's not a journeyman AHL tender for life. I don't think the management team signed him "just because", they even said he had worked hard for a contract, however the fact is the team can only really have 2 goalies in the NHL at a time and they obviously aren't in the best position to give him a shot, especially in a shortened season.

Enough glorifying Irving..

Sure he earned the next start, but c'mon.

Great, he's playing marginally better below average hockey than a struggling + out of sync Kiprusoff.
Fact is, he still needs to be sharper, and start posting save %s above .900

The Flames will need to set the tone early and turn it into a run and gun game again. If they get into a duel of defensive/tight checking prowess with the Blues, whom kept the wings to 16 shots on net, we are likely to be doomed. Especially with Irving playing as unpredictable and average as he is.

I believe MacDonald can be put on waivers, in which case Detroit would have first dibs on him.

If Irving keeps up the decent play and gives the team a chance to win, I don't think he will be going anywhere; he has very little trade value and he will have proven that he can be a backup in the NHL (with potential to grow)

It's pretty easy, if MacDonald wins the backup job, Irving gets sent down. I'm not sure if he has to go through waivers again since he's already been passed.

If Irving wins the backup job, MacDonald gets waived with Detroit having first right to claim him. I think they will as he'll probably still be in their plans as a third goalie.

Yeah sure there could be a trade in the works. I don't see Taylor being in our long term plans. He'll be lucky to get a Heat contract next year if Ortio and Ramo come over and Brossoit turns pro.

The known fact is: You do not change a 'winning' goaltender.

Well not a fact, but ... I don't know I'm tired..
