I don't know the circumstances, but from everything you said, it was a freak accident. It's not fair to blame yourself for what happened to her.

The were asking me to pop the question for gods sake. Loved my family, dug my friends..... etc.
Now at 38 years old, and no true prospects, I feel I am relegated to childless, lonely bachelorhood and dating broken, worn out, used hard put away wet, 30 somethings, that are single for reasons that are obvious 3 minutes into a date. Basically the same trashy women that lured me away from the ones I should be with... but now with a couple hundred thousand miles on the odometer, a slipping clutch, and a big brown rust hole forming in the trunk. (pun intended)
I suppose the same now can be said of myself, but I let 2 near perfect women, slip through my fingertips. Don't let this happen to you.
|
I just want to point out that I'm 32 and the reason I was single this long is the long list of losers I went out with, not that I, myself was a loser. The fact that I remained single and childless this long is not because of a flaw in myself, rather because I'm too smart to get knocked up and put up with just anyone willing to put up with me. Not all 30 something women are single for reasons that are obvious within 3 minutes; some of them were just like the girls you were lured away from.... trying to teach a grown man how to grow up and be a man and him unwilling to man up.
So don't give up. Someone else out there just let an amazing, beautiful woman slip through their fingertips and maybe that's the girl you're gonna snatch up...

I moved to Australia 15 months ago. In that time I've often experienced regrets about the move. My job is certainly worse here than the one I left in Canada. More than that is that I feel I may have done a dis-service to my kids by taking them away from an environment where they were doing very well only to upset the apple cart. I often experience a lot of guilt about it and I'm not a person that experiences much guilt (despite having a Jewish mother). At the time, my wife and I thought that an international experience would be a good opportunity to knock everyone out of their comfort zone and give us and the kids a chance for growth that we wouldn't otherwise get.
In March, 2011 I went to an Australian career expo in Calgary. The day before, me and Mrs.Slinger were driving around and listening to the radio. An add came on for the expo and we thought "why not?" My wife and I have always had an interest in going to Australia and living in another country. Obviously, while I was there I caught the eye of one of the recruiters and the rest is history. Since I've arrived the circumstances of my employment have changed quite a bit: the iron ore sector is coming out of the boom, the tax breaks we were getting were legislated out by the federal government and my role in the company has diminished.
My wife and I were actually talking about it and came to the same conclusion: If we hadn't gone to the career expo I would be sitting here and thinking about the opportunity I passed up. I would have a completely different set of regrets.
I can't really draw any conclusions from this experience yet other than this: you never really know which direction you take in life regardless of how much you plan. It's simply impossible to know how any decision will turn out and looking back on any decision with regret is a fools game. At this point I think I'd rather regret taking a chance and failing than having regret for never having taken the chance to begin with.

I kinda regret staying in South Florida. It can be an odd place, they do say if you stay here too long you can't make it anywhere else. It used to be a cool, quirky place (in a good way), almost lke going back in time a bit. And it was cheap to live. You could buy a little house within walking distance of the beach, or even on the beach if you knew the right people as there were "waiting lists" so to speak for these places, as they rarely came up for sale.
Now it's overpriced and overcrowded. There is no longer such a thing as a leisurely drive up A1A . The mix of people here is not good. There are no cute little houses on the beach any more. Maybe it's not that I regret staying here so much as I regret that the past is gone.

Well this thread certainly was a lot deeper than I saw coming. I guess I'm thankful to live by the creed of the great poets Pantera when they said "Yesterday Don't Mean ####". I've had some bad moments happen to me (and by me), but why reflect on them? Nothing can be done except pondering negative thoughts, and all that leads to is self-loathing. Tomorrow though is full of possibilities that can really go any which way, and unlike the past you can control tomorrow, and change it to your advantage.

When I was much younger and much stupider I punched a kid who was disabled. That one haunts me to an unnatural degree where I cringe thinking about it and I can't get it out of my head. So f'n stupid.
I made fun of someone for being gay in Junior High because everyone else was doing it, I have apologized since and he didn't remember it at all but I still feel quite bad.

Thank you for this. I know that 5 years ago I was whining that I couldn't go back a year or two to when things were better. Dwelling on that caused more poor decisions, and now I think of how happy/fortunate I actually was 5 years ago. It can be an endless cycle if you let it. Carpe Diem I guess!

I went up to a girl I barely knew in Jr. High and said "Wow, you're ugly". I still feel absolutely horrible for that one. Eats me up whenever I think about it. By far the meanest thing I've ever done to anyone.
