Im one of few but would welcome the guy to the flames with open arms.
He is scrutinized under a microscope and when you are young with lots of money you will do things some consider stupid. The money phone thing was a young kid having fun with what could be an athlete he admires. (floyd mayweather)
He refers to twitter where the racism exists. Its not like he claims he is penalized more for being black. He simply talks about the racism he experiences on twitter.
He has a lot of growing up to do but I dont think its a reason to jump on the hate kane wagon.

Take Flames legend Jarome Iginla. Class act. Role model. Upstanding citizen to the community, and to the nation. My favorite athlete.
Has there EVER been any racism against Iggy?
Take Jets sniper Evander Kane. ######bag. Immature. Locker room cancer. Blames his skin colour on the fans being outraged at his idiotic behavior. Let's not forget the numerous rumors of nightclub fights, and stiffing restaurants on his tabs.
I hope we get rid of the clown. Can you guys take him off oour hands for a couple of draft picks?

I think in the playoffs vs Chicago a few years ago there was some racist comments to Iggy in some scrums. And okay, I'll take your Loser, though very talented player for a 3rd.
Then probably trade him for someone else equally valuable, just not an idoit.
As it has been mentioned before, 30/30 franchises in the league would gladly take Jarome Iginla as their poster boy/face of the team. I cannot recall anything ever, that he has done to tarnish his reputation. To a lesser extent PK Subban as well, who is genuinely black (not mulatto). Sure he is a but of a knob on the ice, but the guy is incredibly well spoken off of it, and is making massive strides reaching out to the community, and using his fame for the better. When PK speaks of his family, you can tell he was well raised, and incredibly grateful for being where he is.
Kane is just a stupid thug wanna be punk. And it probably comes from how he was raised.

I thought the same thing, "Kane is an idiot for these comments." Then I thought about it and realized that he probably faces racism all the time and now he's just expressing his hatred for this in the wrong way.
Don't get me wrong he's an idiot for claiming the media is harder on him for being black. I think if he was white he would have faced MORE scrutiny for his Vegas pic. I truly believe the Canadian media is afraid to criticise a black athlete too much out of fear of sounding racist. Imagine if Nugent Hopkins or Crosby tweeted something like that? They would have faced massive media scrutiny to the point where they would have had to apologize publicly. I think the media didn't know how to respond partly because they were cautious about sounding racist and partly because they were probably thinking "Well....I mean, he's a black guy...isn't he allowed to post pics like this?"
The commodore pic is irrelevant because he's not, nor was he ever, a potential superstar. In other words, no one gives a frack about him.
Kane is a moron for making these comments and he's dead wrong in regards to the twitter picture, if that's even what he was referring to. However unless you're a black star in the NHL you really have no idea what he goes through on a daily basis.
Social media is a very different beast than the conventional media. I don't think the conventional media has ever been racist to him but that doesn't mean social media hasn't. Hell even some of the reaction on this thread can be deemed as racist.
Wayne Simmonds had a banana thrown at him. Joel Ward scores a game 7 OT beauty to knock out the defending champs, instead of praise he receives an N-Bomb assailment. Kevin Weeks claims to receive racist hate mail. We applaud these guys for not showing any emotion over these incidents, so does that make it right to hate the guy that finally does? You really think Kane doesn't face similar BS on and off the ice? I'm sure tweeters from all over have made some very racist comments towards him.
Here's the reality: I think he's an insecure kid that is expressing his emotions in a very wrong way, but I mean he's a kid, and kids do that. Give the guy a break, I'm guessing most of the posters on here are white, which means most of you don't understand what it's like to grow up as a visible minority.
Wow, I must have had more heroine beer than I thought......I never write this much.

It's hard to say whether he's overreaching without the context of the interview, but there was definitely a different tone to the reaction to this...
...than there was to this...
Speaking of context, the reaction to Kane's mo' money picture during the lockout was quite similar to the reaction to Derek Roy posting a picture of his new Porche during the lockout. In both cases, there was a strong negative reaction because the imagery made a mockery of the players' arguments for why they felt they needed/deserved more.
If Commodore had posted that photo during the lockout, he would have been trashed just as harshly.
On the flip side, however, I think that if Kane posted his picture today, there would still be a negative reaction, primarily because of his reputation. Could there be some level of racism built into that reputation? Perhaps, but the comparison in attitude with Iginla suggests that race is not the primary driver of Kane's reputation.

Also keep in mind that Commodore took that picture what... 5 years ago? Not only is time a factor in memory but also in social media and technology(look at that blackberry on his night stand). With twitter and smartphones in the hands of most people... obviously more people will be seeing it and in turn getting a bigger reaction.
Side note: I actually think Commodore's pic is worse just because it grosses me out. He looks like a creep, wtf is that napkin doing on the bed next to the novel? Gross.
Young guy, new money, he will learn along the way. So long as he keeps putting up results he is worth it and if not i would love to see him in Calgary even though our conservative city seems to have problems with his attitude I do not.
Kane is 22. I can live with him being immature at ONLY 22 and if we as fans had a 22 year old son playing the NHL with his skill set and new wealth we would give him good advice and be proud of his career. We certainly would not be ripping on the kid for saying i'm black and i face some obstacles that white players don't.
He is right most fans see him as just a young talented hockey player while others see him as a color.
All Kane needs is good solid advice, he needs a veteran leader on the team to show him the way.
Honestly his parents need to sit him down and let him know you have to smarter than flashing bankrolls around in photos.
You are going to get judged by everyone and by some others differently. Just be smart.
Jet fans if you don't want this kid then please trade him to the Flames.

Be honest, do you guys see these words often when they describe white players?
