Sorry if my opinion differs from yours but there are far better Franchise Players out there than Iginla that played on Canadian teams.
Naslund, Linden, Alfredsson, Sundin all come to mind. These players made it past the 1st round more than once!
Sorry, I am a die hard Flames fan, but I refuse to sugar coat this team and more importantly its best Players inadequacies. I refuse to toe the 'Iginla can do no wrong' line.

There's a difference between saying "Iginla can do no wrong" and having a selective memory about his contribution to the team. Your arguments have no basis in reality. You should go back and watch some of the 2004 playoffs including the series against Tampa Bay.
Like I said I'm not against trading Iginla but coming on here and trying to diminish his overall accomplishments as part of your argument is nonsense.

Jarome probably sees this team for what it is. It's more talented than in years past, it's fun to watch, guys like Bouw are re-discovering what made them good players, Brodie is developing into a future top-pair guy, Wideman and Hudler represent the first free agent signings in years to be almost universally and instantly well-liked. The prospect pool is getting stronger each of the past two drafts, and we've got three young guys that can possibly carry this franchise going forward.
All that's great for the Flames. They aren't going to contend this year. They aren't a playoff team this year.
I don't believe Iggy is done by any stretch. But he cannot be here after the deadline. Keeping him is selfish and it's irresponsible. I salute the captain for all he's done for this team and this city. He's going to be beloved in Calgary for the rest of his life. But the time has come.

Agreed, it is hard to argue that Iginla was anything less than the second most valuable player on that Cup run team, behind Kipper. In 2013 the best thing that the Flames could do as an organization would be to trade the guy, but in 2004 it was him and Kipper dragging that team to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Without Gelinas that team doesn't beat the Canucks or Wings. While Kipper and Iginla get most of the glory Gelinas was the guy that came up with the big goals when needed.

What's your point? That Gelinas doesn't get enough credit? I think he has received a ton if credit. He has a nickname to show for it.
Without Kipper and Iginla, they don't don't even get to overtime of game 7 against the canucks, let alone game 6 against Detroit.

Iginla came up in the Conn Smythe award talk and the Flames didn't win so it would have been odd that he wouldn't have come up if they had won.
The list of players you mention has to be a joke right? That is about the only thing that explains your ridiculous posts on the last page.
I apologize when I said that nobody was being over the top or insulting Iginla directly. I now have to change those statements to no sane person is doing those things and unfortunately some guy with some unexplainable grudge is making shat up in this thread.

Interesting to hear Edmonton sitting Ryan Smyth tonight. Not that he is (or ever was) the caliber of player Iginla is, but it just shows that other teams hold their veterans accountable.
As for Iginlas future, it's easy to make arguments both ways. But the way I see it, I really don't think the team is that much better with him, and not that much worse without him. Strange to say that after his unreal tenure here..
If there's one thing that can be said for sure, it is that if we don't trade him, and he doesn't resign here, then management alone should take the blame. It would be utterly awful asset management.

You could have circular logic on this one forever, without Iginla Gelinas does not even have a chance to win the game against Vancouver. I am pretty sure that most people would say that the two best players for the Flames that run were Kipper and Iginla, people might debate what order, but I doubt anyone would seriously put another player in their category.

Yeah, it is extremely short sighted to say Iginla did not carry the team in 03/04. Overall, (apart from 05/06, where we proceeded to pull down his pants in Detroit and drop a deuce on the ice), he has been a solid playoff guy.

Iginla has carried this team on his back for so many years that even if we won the SC the guy would not even be able to raise his arms to hoist the damn thing.

The extremely unfortunate fact of all this discussion is that neither of these players were drafted in-house. Iginla was basically a miracle from a pick in the 1980's in Nieuwendyk and Kiprusoff from Vlasic.
Hell, even players who were drafted by Florida have experienced more success. Luongo, Horton, even Special Nieds. Gelinas deserves special mention for playing on both the Oilers AND the Canucks.
Calgary's cup winning team had the following key players drafted in-house. The formula for success is the same as it always has been.
Vernon
MacInnis
Loob
Roberts
Fleury
Nieuwendyk
Hrdina
Suter

Best Flames players of 04 cup run
1. Kipper
2. Iginla
.
.
.
.
3. Conroy
4. Gelinas
Marty was as clutch as it gets but his goals did kind of fall into his lap. Iginla was a one man show most nights (for offense) and Kipper played better than I have seen a goalie play in the last 10 years

Ok, so this thread has entered the time machine and gone back to 2004.
For what it's worth (and I hope not a repost), here is Warrener's take on Iginla. At first I was apprehensive, but I can't say I disagree. He's just worn out.

My oh my some are so quick to jump to conclusions. I realize that the legends of Iginla and Kipper were built on the 2004 run but the fact is that it's a team effort to get to the finals and while Iginla and Kipper may have been the main cogs Gelinas was a key ingredient, the play of the defense group, as well as a lot of injury fill in players that stepped up big and lets not forget about the team's coach, leader, and GM Darryl Sutter. It was a complete team effort to which Iginla and Kipper stood out for not only their individual play but being the only real notable stars of a truly blue collar group.
It's no coincidence that after the 2004 teams was dismantled somewhat after the lockout that the team never enjoyed a sniff of playoff success again. Pretty well confirms that 2004 was never just about Iginla and Kipper because if that was the case the team would have at least won a playoff series or two.
