Love the speed that Byron provides, something we're noticeably lacking in.

Excellent, hopefully Horak also comes up in the mean time and he takes Comeau off since Comeau offers almost nothing at this point.

Byron took a bit to really get going since his injury before Heat training camp, but lately, he's been playing the best hockey I've seen from him yet.
So much tenacity. So much speed. So much skill.
Can't wait to see him draw into the lineup tomorrow.
With that said, I'm a little disappointed Street couldn't stick, but I understand that getting Cammalleri back makes Ben the odd man out. Plus, Cervenka's been slowly transitioning to centre, so he can take Street's spot and Cammy can move move onto the wing.
As for Taylor, it's too bad he couldn't get in, but Irving's been playing well and it's best for the team to have a rookie and a vet instead of two youngins.

Just my opinion, but Byron is younger and has been able to crack an NHL lineup before while Street seems like he is a career AHLer. I also like Byron's hands and speed more.
Ben is Streets behind Byron.

Street is a 3rd year pro. Far from a career AHLer. Street might be older than Byron but Byron has been an AHLer longer than Street, so if you aren't going to call Byron a career AHLer, maybe yu should hold off on calling Street that too.

Good to see Byron get the call up, I didn't understand why it wasn't him or Horak coming up in the first place although I heard Feaster say today it was a toss up between Byron, Horak and Street.
I'm a fan of Byron and think he will become an important part of this club in the near future. Can't wait to see his speed, tenacious puck pursuit and never give up play style again with the big club.

Byron could be a career AHLer too. However he has played the equivalent of almost a half season in the NHL despite being over 2 years younger than Street, and while he hasn't lit it up, he has managed to put up some points. So while Byron maybe a career AHLer who gets called up during injury situations (like currently) he has still proven to be more capable than Street. Neither is going to blossom into a star player, but Byron has shown more upside.

Not really a fan of Byron but the team needs to see what is has in some of these guys and Street didn't show much so I guess time to give another guy a shot.
Hope he can prove me wrong and show something he hasn't in the past opportunities he has had.

I'm not sure what Street was supposed to show you. I thought he played really well in his second game actually. Just about had a goal.
He played a hell of a lot better than the captain IMO.

Anyone else find it odd that the Heat do not play the same system as the Flames? There seems to be a lack of cohesion in the organization.

Based on his "resume" I don't think there was much he was goi g to show me. Not saying he was terrible just didn't do enough to ensure he should definitely stay up.

Because it's the flames? No.
In the context of a different NHL franchise, probably.

Hard to do unless the head coach of the farm team is hand picked by the head coach of the parent club. Troy Ward seems to have a level of autonomy down in Abbotsford. Do you want to be the guy that says "Scrap your system, we need you to play this way so players that are called up are already familiar"?

Um ya I would be that guy if I was the GM of the Calgary Flames.

That seems like a fair assessment. I thought he looked OK out there. Created some opportunities, didn't look out of place, but I'm not about to start a "Street is being sent down?! Fire Feaster!" thread. What we need is one of these guys getting a chance with the big club to create a situation where it seems ridiculous to send the guy back down. If Byron doesn't do that maybe Horak gets a chance, or Aliu gets another look, or Reinhardt. I'm not expecting any of those guys to dazzle though.

Seriously, you don't think Ward would bolt? "We don't care what kind of coach you are, you must play this system". Sounds a little familiar don't you think?

I think the simplest answer there is two-fold:
1. We don't have enough pieces in Abby to play that kind of style yet.
2. We owe it to the fans in Abby to try and ice a competitive team. The failure of step one necessitates a different strategy.
Besides, it isn't like training kids to be defensively responsible is a bad thing.

Bolt where, to the ECHL? The whole purpose of the farm system is to develop individual players and to develop players that are ready to step in and play your system if called up. It is not to develop Ward so that he can make the next step in his coaching career.
Sound familiar, ya of course it sounds familiar, that is how every NHL team operates their farm team and how they instruct their farm team coach

Hey I think that the way that Ward plays is the way the Flames should play if they want to have the most success, it just seems odd that the organization has made this shift and the minor league team plays a different style. Not sure any other team has two distinct playing styles within their organization, one for the farm team and one for the NHL team. I juts have a hard time believing that Grand Rapids plays dump and chase while their parent club plays a puck possession game.
