I might be interested in Arnott. Sounds like he failed his physical with the Rangers because his surgically repaired knee wasn't ready. Time was the onnly thing that would fix that. However I would want him to sign in Abbotsford first give a good 5-6 games to show that he can still play, then maybe sign him to an NHL deal after.

Would be a smart approach but I highly doubt Arnott would even consider going to Abby.

Now that he is 42 years old, Iginla deserves a young center like Jason Arnott.

You know what I don't understand? We clearly have some problems with center right now. Why not go after both Arnott and Morrison and pretty much guarantee us a playoff spot this year? Two veteran, hardworking guys that can lead our younger guys and will mesh well with Iggy and Tanguay. Seems like a no brainer to me.

At times Iginla looks like he's 22. Other times, he looks like he's about 52.
Regarding Arnott, no. I'd rather see us get younger than sign old guys. I'm just not a fan of signing old guys, no matter how good they may be.

I liked Morrison a lot but if I rememeber right he is perfectly happy fishing in B.C this year. Think he has packed her in.

I'd rather not have Arnott, but I do see the connection with Gelinas coming from the Nashville organization and Arnott spending several years there as well.

How would those 2 slow old veterans guarantee the flames a playoff spot? If anything the flames will get beat more because the team would not be able to keep up with the opposition .

Clever one liners aside, he showed he could still play last year, and would add size up the middle. How does it not make sense if they do it?

I guess because many feel this season is a wash based on what we've seen so far. With Kipper down, the team not winning and other veterans playing not great, adding yet another veteran might not be the wisest choice?

They are considering adding him to the coaching staff, correct?
Why on earth would management even consider bringing him in? Oh ya thats right we love to be mediocre. Arnott may very well help but when will this team finally realize it has ZERO chance of winning the cup with the current roster and very little hope of even making the playoffs. Adding Arnott does not change that, hell adding Crosby at this point may not be enough to get into the show.

We're not signing any young guys this season. What is wrong with a 1 year contract?

Especially if its inexpensive.
Ultimately a move like this is pretty compliant with the team's overall strategy of trying to 'win now' or just keeping on, keeping on.
Its an inexpensive and arguably effective method of plugging holes without giving up assets.
As I've mentioned in the past though, I like having a little flexibility, and while Feaster professes the same, Arnott would make 50. Not even half-way through the season.

i'm not convinced that makes the team that much better. At best, it takes the flames from a 13/14th place team to a 10th/11th place team.
I'd prefer to avoid these bandaid fixes, and just let this team show what it's got over the next 15 games, and handle the future of the roster at the trade deadline based on where we sit.
(i'm sure i will be crapped on for this opinion, but just being honest).

It adds one more body between Horak, Byron and Sven getting NHL icetime.

Really tough to fathom how some people think this would have any connection with our future.
If it were to happen, it wouldn't even be a one year deal... it would be 5 month contract.
With our gaping void down the middle, I'd be up for this if he could pass a physical.
In either case it would be nice to send a few contracts out and clear up some space.

Then I wouldn't be inclined to take the chance. He was already slow and a knee sugery could expose that even further.

I ran into him at a hockey tourney my nephew and his son were in 2-3 weeks back and we chatted a bit, I asked how he was enjoying retirement (I thought I heard he hung em up), he was quick to tell me he hadn't retired yet and just had surgery a few weeks ago.

Morrison is still in Calgary. But as I said above he recently had wrist surgery and is not ready to play.

I can think of a few reasons. Yes he showed that he could still play last year... but he was hardly playing against the best the other team had to offer nor was he asked to shoulder much load defensively.
I'd want him... but I'd only want him if he's signed as depth. Put him where Backlund was between Glencross and Stempniak and I'm in favor of bringing him on I think he could do great trying to beat up other teams third-liners... but if the plan would be to put him alongside Iginla? I'd rather have Tangs TBQH.
