Former Jays pitcher Jesse Litsch had successful surgery today. Had to get a bone graft in his shoulder from a deceased donor.

No, his rule is that once it's gotten to the point of officially submitting numbers (numbers that go to the arbitrator) that's when 1 year deals go off the table.

Reigning National League Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey will throw the first pitch for the Toronto Blue Jays when they open the 2013 MLB season at home against the Cleveland Indians on Monday April 2, 2013.

Earlier in the off-season when Dickey was acquired by the Jays, and already having Johnson, Buehrle, Romero, and Morrow in the pitching rotation, there were quite a few posts on this forum about what the rotation order would be and who would be the opening day starter. The consensus was that Dickey would be the guy and now we know for sure.
Gibbons has the rotation tentatively penciled in as follows:
Dickey
Morrow
Buehrle
Johnson
Romero
Although there hasn't been any significant Jays news over the last two weeks, the luster has still not tarnished on my excitement for opening day.

Agree completely, less than a week from pitchers and catchers. 6 weeks tomorrow I head down to Florida. I will be seeing the Jays once in Dunedin and twice down in the Port Charlotte area where I am staying. Also will be seeing a the Rays, Twins, Pirates and Red Sox in their home parks, agianst the Jays or each other. Can't wait!

Pitchers and catchers report today! Best news to wake up to.
And this story about how RA Dickey spent part of his off-season is remarkable. What a thing to do.

I get that you want the maple leaf to pop out of the hat, but I think it is too much.
In other news - pitchers and cathers reported yesterday, and the best summer of our lives is near.

I haven't seen the special, but if they follow the average MLBer, I'm sure it'd be a HBO special involving railing chics. Guys like Dickey and Halladay are the exception, that's for sure.

McGowan with shoulder pain already.
Hell be a multi millionaire when he retires next year without having pitched in the majors for 4 years?
http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/story/?id=415909
Manager John Gibbons told the media on Wednesday that McGowan's shoulder was sore after playing catch on Tuesday and he will be slowed down at camp.
The 30-year-old signed a two-year contract extension last March that will see him earn $1.5 million for the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

Poor McGowan is pretty much a lost cause... Wonder if he can hit, because his career on the mound is drawing to a close. Too bad - was showing real signs of becoming something special before injuries struck.

I can't believe they gave him a multi-year extension. They really ought to designate him for assignment and open up his spot on the 40 man the next time they need one. No one else is going to take him with his injury history.

Alright, lets get some Jays talk going in here. If the Blue Jays are to make the playoffs this year, who, outside of Jose Bautista, will play the biggest role in helping the club get there?
I think Jose Reyes - the Blue Jays finally have a lead off hitter that is capable of hitting over .240, and Reyes is a perfect example of what I think this club has been missing for so long. It seems like we have always had bats in the middle of our lineup (Delgado, Glaus, Bautista, Green, Canseco) - but the team has never really had a true leadoff bat since, maybe, Shannon Stewart.
Reyes is more than capable of hitting .280,OBP of .350, OPS of .800, 40 swiped bags, and maybe 50-60 RBI - drool. Finally a guy that can get on the bases and make things happen. I don't know about anyone else, but I think the acquisition of Reyes is probably the biggest part of this past off-season, and here is why....
1. Double/triples threat
2. Forces opposing pitchers to attack the middle of our lineup
3. Puts Lawrie down in the order, hopefully with less pressing we will see a better Lawrie
4. Table setter - puts pressure on opposing defenses and pitching
5. Allows Gibby to do so many things, hit and run/bunt for hit/steal
6. Comes across as a guy who just loves the game of baseball.
So - who do you think will be the biggest contributor in the Jays making the playoffs?

I'm with you 100%. Reyes as long as he's healthy will be the threat will keep defences on their toes. I'd even put Cabrera up there. Pitching speaks for itself, but as an everyday player, Reyes is the guy who'll make the difference.
Dusty, are you taking in spring training at the moment? Any players noticibly out of shape?
