Speaking of which, one thing I know JJ will do right is use CGI judiciously, and film on real sets whenever practical. No fake as crap looking blue screen backgrounds, and hopefully far fewer (or at least better executed) CG characters.
I don't even care if he has to use that same beer brewery or whatever the engine room in Star Trek was, at least the actors will be able to move around like they were, you know, somewhere that exists.

Comic Book Resources tacks a stab at casting a young Han Solo.
I like this quote..
Quote:
And for the record, let’s all agree that Shia LeBeouf is never again allowed to play anyone related to a Harrison Ford character. Seriously.

They also beak Ryan Reynolds..

I don't mind Gosling *ducks*.. seriously he is cocky and can act.

Yeah, Solo is a weathered scoundrel who has spent his life looking out for number 1, and scraping by on the skin of his teeth.
He's not a flashy world hopper, he's a scoundrel, a pirate, a low-life. He's never 'ahead' in life, always grifting, hustling playing the odds to stay afloat, out of the hands of the empire.

I would be so happy if they just started fresh. Use the universe but distance themselves from the other movies, that way the story can actually be good and new and unique instead of rehashing the same plot lines over and over. I really don't care about padme, luke, anakin, yoda, obi-won, han, boba fett, etc. We had 6 movies of that storyline and those characters, we don't need 3 more explaining what happens to them or how they got to where they are. I hope it's a looking forward starting anew kind of thing instead of a fixing the prequels kind of thing

I would be fine with that. To be honest I'm really not interested in the short term after the classics story line. The strong ideal was that the Empire without the Emperor and Vader was pretty much beaten, and there isn't really a threat that could top a galaxy spanning empire lead by two ultimately powerful beings.
I guess if you were smart you'd move it a hundred years into the future and not do anything related to the EU, and have the galaxy breaking down again. But I would prefer that they take the emphasis off of the force wars at least for now.
Maybe the Republic doesn't want the Jedi back, the propaganda that the people believed was that the Jedi caused the civil war in their hunger for power. Maybe you could have it that Luke died without finding someone to pass the wand to. No Ben Skywalker, ar Jacen and Jaina and Anakin Solo.
Have a galaxy where the balance in the force was created by no force users.
But I think the whole Sith thing needs to go away for a while ( I believe that the Sith were finished off at the end of Star Wars no matter what the EU and AU say), no dark side no light side.
Just find a way to fracture the universe again.
Oh and no frackin Vong either.

You realize that there is absolutely no chance whatsoever of this happening, though, right?

It'd be cool if they did like 2000 years in the future and the Jedi are a myth and some dark side force (not the Sith) needs to be stopped by a hero who discovers the history of the Jedi hidden away by Luke or something like that. Just something original, no more Sith, no more deathstars.
The franchise needs a reboot and there is literally an infinite number of story lines they could make up, just write a good story that makes sense with good characters that develop instead of non-stop cgi and explosions. If there's a lightsaber use it for like 5 minutes the whole film and it truly seems like a legendary mythical weapon and not a $5 toy every kid can buy at toys'r'us. It was the sense of wonder and secrecy that made the original 3 good, the world felt real instead of like a giant tech demo for cgi.

Probably, but one thing that makes the EU so terrible is the damn offspring of the Solo's and Skywalkers.
Ben is just whiny and worthless
Jacen was the worst Sith Lord ever, I almost stopped reading Legacy of the Jedi when they did a 5 page exposition of him stewing and thinking evil thoughts while eating spaghetti in the bathtub.
Jaina was way over powered, she basically kicks the crap out of everything
Anakin - Dead, fab
The problem with the Star Wars Universe and the EU is that they made the Jedi and the force so powerful that there was never any danger to the Jedi.
In one book the Empire attacks Yavin with a fleet of Star Destroyers including a SSD, suddenly size matters not, they're flinging those things half way across the galaxy. Luke is crushing AT-AT's like tin cans, they're cracking planets and doing all kinds of stupid things.
I think that the original idea of the force was that it made you a bit faster, and you could see visions of the future and you could anticipate what would happen and toss some rocks around.
Its become the ultimate plot killer to be honest in the EU.
So I'd rather not have the Solo and skywalker brats anywhere near the story if they're going to be uber powered.
If the EU had written the PT, Kenobi and Skywalker would have flown into the Seperatist fleet crushing ships with their minds and forcing reactor overloads from half way across the sector. The clone War should have been over when it started with the Jedi making the droids into puppets for their own amusement.
For the next one, they need to re-invent not add on to the previous trilogy. They can alude to the founding of the new republic with Princess Leia and Han and the rest of our merry band that bought democracy to the galaxy, then borrow from Shakesphere "and they died" now years after that a new threat rises in the galaxy.
Leave out the Jedi for the next few movies, add some grit, and an unexpected enemy and go from there.
For fun Leia and Luke have a falling out and she turns to her communicator and picks it up and says execute order 66 and we see Luke shot to rags.

I've never read any of the Star Wars books, but that is a loose plot line I would like to see. Don't eliminate the Jedi, but tone them way back.

I agree and disagree.
I get what the Captain is saying, the storylines lose their luster because of the 'Superman Effect.'
When someone cant lose the story isnt interesting and then the storytellers have to resort to escalation and then everything becomes so unrealistic that it becomes silly and people stop caring because they cant invest in the characters.

So basically the EU makes the Jedi into the cast of Dragonball Z, then?
Because obviously the only solution is to have Luke fight Goku.

Only Star Wars novels I ever read were the first of the Rogue Squadron series. i would assume there are more now but that time there were 8 I think.
But speaking as a non-Star Wars nerd, I think that's the right idea - in the universe but mostly different set of characters with one or two familiar ones nearby.

There are 9 total, and the 9th book is quite a departure from the previous 8. It feels like 8 was supposed to be the last, and 9 was some last hurrah they imagined that has very little to do with the rest of the series.
So, if you made it to Isard's Revenge but didn't read Starfighters of Adumar, don't worry too much about it.

Actually there are 10 total as another one, Mercy Kill, was released in 2012. I haven't read the newest one yet but yes, you aren't missing anything by not reading Starfighters of Adumar.
