Trying to find an authentic Flyers black jersey...
I own a few jerseys, all Flames, but the only thing I know about jerseys in general is that the ones with the tie-downs are the really good ones. Well, and obviously the difference between the current Edge jerseys and the ones before the '05 lockout.
Anyway, I'm looking for a black Flyers jersey that Forsberg would have worn when he was their captain. I'm not nessicarily looking for a black Forsberg jersey, since those are hard to find and are usually pretty expensive. I just want to make sure I don't make one of those weird jersey gaffs where I buy a CCM one from 2002 and get his name put on it with the C on the front, only to find out that "everyone knows the year Forsberg was captain of the Flyers, their jerseys were made by Reebok."
I know there are people here who really into jerseys and seem to know everything about them. If someone can tell me which jersey I should be looking for, I'd be really appreciative.
Now that I think of it, I wouldn't even know where to buy one. I'm hesitant to do the eBay thing, since I'd have no clue if I was getting ripped off or not, and I've already asked around at the jersey stores in the mall, etc.

He was then traded in February of 2007, so he must have only worn the "C" during those 5 months. During this time the Flyers wore these jerseys: http://www.nhluniforms.com/2006-07/Flyers.html
These were the jerseys worn the year before the league switched to the Reebok Edge jerseys.

What size are you looking for? This guy has a size 48, which is roughly equivalent to a large (the pre-Edge authentics are cut looser -- designed to fit over pads -- so it would seem baggier than a replica).
Are there actually people out there that would give you a hard time if you ended up with a CCM jersey with Forsberg on it?
I would....well, I'd keep it to myself anyway.
When the Flames had their 50% off sale, I didn't get a Baertschi jersey for the lone reason that on the back of the collar it had the Reebok logo instead of REEBOK spelt out. Since Sven didn't play for the flames when they had the RBK logo, I passed on it.
But I'm a bit of jersey snob that way.

Maybe, maybe not... but I'm the type that would wind up buying a second one, if I happened to find out at some point that the first one had a mistake on it. I would never call anyone else out on their jerseys, but finding something like that out about one of mine would irk me.

Uh oh. I bought one of the authentic new retro jerseys (with the fight strap) at the 50% off sale and had them send it off to get it "Baertshci'd." I don't remember what the reebok logo looked like on it though.

OK, I ordered one of these from the guy. The question now is lettering... where should I take it? This is the first time I've done an "out of print" jersey. I doubt the lettering on the current jerseys will be the same as this one, so I'm not sure that I can just take it to a jersey store and have them send it out to get it done.
Any advice out there? Sorry, I know I'm a noob at this stuff.
Try Cal-Crests (http://www.calcrests.com/en/). They do authentic stitched on numbering. If they won't do it for you directly, you can take it to Tuxedo SFS and they'll send it in for you.
You'll have to specify the order in which you want the colours applied to the jersey though (eg white on orange). They are a full custom shop
I have a few jerseys that I've sent there (for playing) and the quality of the work is top notch.

Great Plains Cresting does all the cresting for Flames jerseys (as well as those through the Fan Attic); Jersey City will also do it (although they also outsource -- I believe to Great Plains as well but that might have changed). They are "NHL licensed" so they should be able to match up the same font that the Flyers use. Also, because this is an airknit jersey, you might want to specifically request an "airknit" namebar (as opposed to the stuff they use on Edge jerseys now).
Some of the newer hockey shops (i.e. Pro Hockey Life, Hockey Experts) also advertise cresting services. Not sure who they use though, or whether they specifically do NHL licensed jerseys.
P.S. I've used Cal-Crests before as well -- they do quality work but I don't think they are NHL licensed so you may not get "exactly" the font you're looking for.
