I'm married to a Flames fan and wish no more than have the Flames return to being a strong and successful organization. Having lived in Calgary for closs to a decade back in the 'glory years' ('85-'93) I LOVED going to games and seeing a quality team that could compete with anyone. Alas, it seems some very poor moves in the last decade, both on and off the ice have made it difficult to see how the Flames can compete with the big boys now for a while to come. Slam the Oiler approach but at least the light at the end of the tunnel is within sight and it's not an oncoming train.
(fwiw, I don't think they were as bad as their record indicated but it has been painful nonetheless) As much as I hate to see it, the Flames organization is only gonna get worse before it gets better and that sucks.
As for 'Moon', my apologies if I insinuated you are a or the problem with regards to immature comments on this thread and yes, 'circle the drain' may have been a bit of a cheap shot but unfortunately it's not far from the truth if the Flames management don't pull a rabbit outta their hat in the next few years. No one enjoys losing but allowing some players to wilt on the vine and now have little or no value will not help a team move forward. I think Feaster will be long gone before any/most of the tough decisions are made. And he hasn't exactly stocked the system either so it's a bit of a mess all 'round.

Can we get back on topic, and return to sh**ting on the Oilers, please?
The trading-injured-guys, announcing-trades-before-they-happen, bragging-about-being-terrible, making-guys-play-hurt, failing-horribly-and-pretending-it-was-the-plan-all-along, Oilers.
I have been saddened by the decline in Oilers hate on this forum, just when it should have been ramping up...

Just over a year ago i was starting to feel a little sorry for them. Making fun of them was like picking on disabled people. However since TSN and all the other media outlets say they are the best thing to hit hockey since 4 on 4 overtime I have to started to full on hate them again.
Starting with that overrated gaptoothed bitch.

If the Edmonton Oilers were a Hobbit they would be Doosh Baggins: the cousin who suffered a major brain trauma after tripping on his foot hair and now keeps insisting how awesome he is while eating his own snot and walking into trees.

Oh look, RNH is again having issues with his shoulder.
They're calling it 'sore.'
Quote:
But, for now, the Oilers are going to use an off-ice program designed to strengthen the area in the hopes that Nugent-Hopkins can continue playing.
He will get four days off between games by the time the puck is dropped in Detroit and next week — the Oilers have a three-day gap between games. That’s another stretch that has been targeted as a point where the 19-year-old will concentrate on more off-ice work.
The trouble is that there’s no way of forecasting what could happen with hits and jolts in games. It was a hit in the overtime period against the Canucks that set him off track again.
Nugent-Hopkins first had issues with his shoulder in his rookie campaign, missing 20 games. He then left the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League in December to do some strengthening and conditioning in Edmonton before playing for Canada at the world junior championship in Ufa, Russia.

Sounds to me like he wasn't physically ready for the NHL, and his body is responding as such.

RNH and Yakupov shouldnt be playing in the NHL... they should be developing in the AHL. RNH is not physically ready for the NHL yet, this shoulder injury could easily turn intoa nagging injury would hunt him in his career.
Not only that, they are burning off cheap ELC years for no reason at all. But i guess they wouldnt have an nhl lineup if they dont play :P

I agree with much of this. But it's tough sell to Edmonton this team as the second coming of the 'city of champions' when two of your first overalls are playing in the minors.
I also think the arena debacle hinges on selling this team, and hyping it as fashionable and young and sexy.

Their ELCs would've been burned off anyways. And since both were drafted from the CHL, neither are eligible to play in the AHL due to the CHL agreement. Find me one team in the league that wouldn't have these two on their rosters.

There is also a possible step between not being on the roster and playing 20+ minutes a night. You can look at how a team like the Bruins eased Seguin into the lineup.
And from the sounds of it the oilers have no plans to take precautions with a player that could become a franchise player. They figure a four day break is enough to heal a shoulder injury. Probably sent him to a faith healer or bought him a crystal or something.

I seriously can't stand the "something special" up north. Its something special alright, they don't even make a bus short enough for that group of clowns

I don't think it would have hurt to have Yakupov in Russia for this shortened year. RNH is a different story, but a year of junior wouldn't have killed him. But the more the Oil do to damage their children the better. In 3 years their supercore will be expensive and they still have zero depth. That's not how the Hawks or Pens won.
