Default Police Hunt for Christopher Dorner

Here's a link to a very informative timeline of the events that have transpired so far. It has been getting updated periodically as news rolls in..
http://projects.scpr.org/static/time...rner-timeline/

Brief Background:
-Dorner is an ex LAPD cop/US Naval lieutenant who was fired for making alleged false statements in 2006.

-Honourably discharged from the US Navy on Feb. 1st

-Feb.3: Allegedly kills the daughter and fiance of the man who represented him in the appeals case regarding his firing from NYPD

-A man matching Dorner's description attempts to hijack a boat from a marina in San Diego at 10:30 PM on Feb.6. When the motor doesn't start, the man ties up the owner and flees.

-Hours later, in the early morning of Feb.7, police begin trailing a vehicle which matches the profile of Dorner's truck. The driver pulls off the road and begins firing at police.

-Minutes after, a man ambushes a police car nearby and begins firing on the officers. One officer has now died.

-8:30AM Feb. 7: Police receive reports of a truck on fire in Big Bear. Truck is found to belong to Dorner.

-Evening of February 7th: Police begin canvassing door to door in Big Bear for possible leads as to Dorner's location.

What makes this story even more bizarre is the complete lack of regard LAPD officers have been showing for public safety. Two trucks carrying innocent people have been fired on by officers within hours of each other. The first truck was being used by two women to deliver newspapers door to door. The second truck was being driven by a man on his way to the beach for an early morning surf.

Here are pictures from the first truck...
Spoiler!

And from the second...
Spoiler!

For those interested, this is his manifesto about police improprieties that he posted on Facebook prior to the killings...http://content.clearchannel.com/cc-c...1360213161.pdf The end is chilling...

Spoiler!

The potential for the body count to rise drastically in this case is huge. As he states, Dorner is well armed and well trained for combat. Here's hoping he is taken out before he gets a chance to hurt anyone else.

So he has gone into the mountains. Does anyone else see this playing out like First Blood? First he is going to maim some searchers with booby traps, then he will eventually make his way back into the city, where he will blow up a building, and make his way back to the Police Station.

Yeah, all I could think of was First Blood but no man is truely a real-life Rambo. He'll make a mistake and it'll be over in the face of the manpower they are going to muster against this guy. I just hope no innocent people are killed. The reckless regard for civilians by the LAPD is pretty astonishing if true.

As I stated in the mass shooting thread...now he has Anderson Cooper involved.

can anyone translate all of that jargon? I assume it means he is not bringing any sandwhiches to the picnic.

Probably not, this one's looking for a fight and a large body count.

He won't kill himself til he gets that

Yeah, it seems like this guy wants to kill cops until they kill him.

Which is a large part of the reason why the cops are a little trigger happy right now and making bad decisions on "similar looking trucks". Now, if I wanted to politicize this, I would argue that this is a good argument against the "an armed society is safer" claim. Even highly trained people are panic shooting innocents. But I won't go there, because now is not the time for a debate on gun control.

I wonder why the media is downplaying the cops shooting at innocent trucks. The trucks in those pictures are very shot up. I think they have current cops acting like mass shooters too. Even if it is the right guy, I can't see how just opening fire on his truck can be following any kind of proper protocol.

edit: It appears the truck driven by the women delivering papers was the wrong model, wrong color, wrong number of doors and had two elderly latino women in it. WTH? Are the good guys worse than the bad guys?

It just shows how unbelievably unqualified cops can be. How the hell do you confuse a Toyota Tacoma, to a Honda Ridgeline to a Nissan Titan. They aren't even similar.

edit: LOL, they are supposed to be looking for a Nissan Titan (I thought it was a Tacoma). Which is 30% bigger than either of those trucks. So they have 2 identities wrong. Brutal, just brutal.

As part of his manifesto, he warns police not to deploy helicopters because he would have portable anticraft missiles. Assuming he's not bluffing, how would he get a hold of something like that? I know guns are abundant in the US, but a missile launcher seems a little extreme

You'd probably have most gun advocates arguing they need guns to protect themselves from cops like this. Would be an interesting court case. What happens if cops come up from behind someone and open fire for seemingly no reason, and the occupants of the car return fire? How would the charges play out, I wonder.

Read the whole "Manifesto" he posted. I don't want to sound crazy, but it's actually very interesting. Seems like he was a decent fellow who got the shaft from the "Blue Line".

It's a very interesting read.

PART 1

PART 2

The media will butcher him, but maybe this was his last resort? I don't know.

Yep, that is what I got from it to. This guy had a legit beef, and a pretty compelling case for racism and corruption. His solution is just a tad overboard though.

why would he even mention them if he had them? his goal is to kill as many cops as possible, so why bother warning them?

Yeah, the solution is into crazy territory for sure. It sure does open the debate about mental health/guns/treatment etc.

You have to wonder if he'd been treated fairly and given mental support if we'd be talking about this situation.

How could this possibly be his last resort? What a ridiculous statement.

THAT'S what you get after reading the delusional ramblings of a paranoid, (likely) mentally ill individual?

Apparently some people will believe anything if it fits their narrative.

I think he meant, in his mind, this was his last resort.

I am not defending what this guy is doing at the moment. But don't forget he was stable enough to have a long military career, and be accepted into and pass all screening to become a police officer. Did you actually read the manifesto? This guys big gripe is the massive racism in the LAPD and how there are officers, that partook in the Rodney King beating, that are now Captains in the Dept... which is true. His other gripe, is he was dismissed for reporting the racism.

The guy has snapped, and I do not defend what he is doing. But he could have gone to the media or something, and made a bigger mark. The LAPD is legendary for being massively racist.
