^ I don't know why, but I like Hassli. Hopefully he finds the right fit, but I do wonder if he's a tough guy to be on a team with...

I like Hassli, too. He must be a pain, though.
Dallas also traded for Kenny Cooper, who will be on his third MLS team in as many seasons. Spread that Brek Shea money around, Dallas!

I think his wife wanted to return home to the States. That was why he asked for a trade.
And the conditional 2nd is the minimum, it could increase from there depending on performance.

I would've thought that Canada would be the perfect compromise for a French footballer and his American wife! Ah well - it gives Toronto some room to continue with their overhaul, so I'd say that it is a win-win.

Well, if this is a real leak of the new Timbers kit, color me unimpressed. I think it looks like a cycling jersey. I guess I won't really know until I see it in action, but it doesn't look like it'll be very flattering on your average Joe.
MLS is presenting a league wide kit release at the end of the month, I'm sure more leaks will happen between now and then.

Ugh, the Timbers had the best kits in MLS IMO. I hate how there's a new design every 2 years...

Former MLS and US National takes a break from soccer and comes out as being gay.

I don't know much about this guy as I just started following soccer but does an MLS team take a stance and bring him back domestically? He is only 25 he must have some talent still or would it be to much of a media circus around the team and inside the locker room

Chicago holds his MLS rights at the moment.
MLS fans seem to be a pretty tolerant bunch, and he certainly has plenty of support from other players. If he comes back to the league, I'm sure it would stop being a talking point relatively quickly.

Nigel Reo-Coker has agreed terms on a move to Major League Soccer with Vancouver Whitecaps, Sky Sports can confirm.
The 28-year-old has shunned options in England and across Europe to finalise a move to America.
Reo-Coker, whose wife is American, has opted to make the move across the Atlantic and is due to fly to Canada on Thursday.
The new MLS season kicks off next month so Reo-Coker will be signed in time to make his debut against rivals Toronto on March 2nd.

This is what you are getting out of him "Not a goal scoring midfielder that’s for sure; Reo-Coker has just 21 goals in his 327 games (that’s about a goal every 16 games) so though he may often be described as a ”box-to-box midfielder""

Timbers sign Mikael Silvestre
http://m.portlandtimbers.com/news/20...kael-silvestre
Yeah, he's old.
After watching the first few Timbers preseason matches, it's apparent that they're going to score goals, but they need a stabilizing force on the back line. If Silvestre can do that, then it's worth the risk.

Frings announced his retirement from TFC this morning.
It will be interesting to see what Toronto does with the open DP slot now.

Looks like Nelsen's connections are already starting to pay off.
Toronto has acquired QPR winger Hogan Ephraim on loan.

Coles notes:
-24 year old winger/forward
-was a U-16/17/18/19 England international
-has 142 games of experience in the EPL

New kits debuting this week!
Toronto, Philly, and New York yesterday. Montreal, Seattle, Vancouver, KC today.
Portland and others tomorrow.
Some good, some not so good. I'm looking forward to this weekend and the start of the season!

Ephraim was a good pickup for TFC. I think they will have a very good backline this year as well but unless Bekker is a revelation in the central midfield their engine room is just way too weak now that Frings is gone.
Looking forward to the season this year, Montreal and Vancouver should both be good, competitive teams. Too bad the Whitecaps have no Canadians, I'd love to cheer for the "local" team but I'm a Canadian national team fan first so I tend to follow our players more than clubs. At least until Calgary or Kelowna get at least a semi-pro team. Will mostly be watching TFC again I think as the Caps young Canadians will be riding pine and the Impact's academy is so new there has really been no production yet.

I'm a big supporter of Canadian soccer as well, but I don't have a problem with the Whitecaps and their lack of Canadians for the time being. They're a club team, and their number one goal needs to be to succeed on the pitch, regardless of the nationality of their players. Success on the pitch will translate into establishing their fan base, and let's face it, generating revenue. That revenue can then be reinvested into player development.
The most important thing that the Canadian MLS club can do (and are doing) is to establish academies to actually develop Canadian players. Those players will hopefully move on to careers at home and abroad, which will improve the Canadian national program more than signing any current national team player simply on the basis of him being Canadian.

Timbers released their kits last night at an art gallery, because Portland.
I think there are a lot of nice details, but the sum is not equal to it's parts. Will not purchase. Plus, there's NO WAY they'll look good on a big dude like me. Those V-necks? A definite no go.
Maybe they'll look better on the pitch. If they win, it won't matter.

I agree in the frustration that the Whitecaps are not playing Canadians. They do however have 4 Canadians under 22 on the roster this year, all who came through the academy, and 2 on the MNT. Teibert will see some time, and Clarke will as well. Still a long way to go, but much better than their first year.
I'd say that's better development than Montreal, who have an aging midfielder who just retired from the MNT, a backup centre back, and two academy players who won't see a minute on the pitch.
TFC may be a horrible team, but they've drafted and developed young Canadians and given these Canadians actual minutes. Morgan, Bekker, and Dunfield will see lots of action this year. Henry, Welshmen and Stinson will see minutes as well. In the last 2 MNT games, TFC had 5 players play for Canada.
Hell, DC United has 2 MNT regulars and a third who just made his debut....
