If Calgary really thought Taylor was their back up he would have been given a contract earlier. I don't think you can make that claim at all.

Oh my god you're right. Time to make the switch. You're logic is overwhelming. Lets play Taylor. If he loses we'll throw Irving back in, brimming with confidence as he knows how much Hartley trusts him.

Not a chance should you go with Taylor. Irving will only get better with confidence. People forget that Kipper was was nervous and giving up rebounds his first few starts in Calgary.
Irving.

Again, I'm not saying he SHOULD be given the start, but I don't think it's a stretch to say it's something you should think about.
And again.....this was more meant to be a thread to discuss/debate as we move along here. If Irving gets lit up on Saturday, do we not at least discuss putting Taylor in back at home if Kipper is still hurt? Of course we do.

Irving for sure but he better learn in 48 hours to come out of his crease and challenge shooters or he'll be pulled in 10 minutes against Vancouver.

You go with Irving and you hope that the team can outscore any more nerves that he might have so that he can get into a groove.

If they both had contracts, how do you figure Taylor wouldn't get the job? He was way better in Abby than Leland. All things being equal, I think Taylor has played better hockey this year.

Ridiculous thread.
This is FINALLY the chance to evaluate Irving once and for all. Why would you not give him a chance to play so you can finally make a decision on him. Danny Taylor is a long ways off, through no fault of his own.

If the Flames wanted him to have a contract, he would have had one. That's what you're missing. You might say he deserves the back-up job more but that's besides the point.
It wouldn't have been hard to get Taylor under an NHL contract earlier. If they wanted him to be the back up instead of Irving, he would have been. Cut and dry man.

Irving gets the cage. No doubt about it. He made the saves he had to to win, and Bobrovsky didn't. Irving earned the win and should get the chance to get another.
However, he really needs to get out of the crease more. He was caught too deep on both goals. Get confident and challenge those shooters Leland!
(To be fair, Gio didn't play that 2 on 1 very well, but it was a saveable shot regardless)

Alright, clearly I'm on my own in the "at least think about Danny for Saturday" camp. I personally don't think it's a slam dunk start for Leland because I wasn't overly impressed tonight and he'll need to be a lot better on Saturday.
But it's definitely a question worth re-visiting if Leland gets lit up on Saturday. Can I at least get some agreement here? please?

I don't know how many times this needs to be said. Leland Irving was on a PTO in Abbotsford this year. He could only be dressed for a limited number of games due to this. He was basically in Abby to stay in shape and to get some practice time in. In no way, shape, or form did Taylor take the starting position away from Irving. If Feaster and the rest of the Flames management truly thought that Taylor was a better choice to be back up than Irving, then they would have glady gave Taylor a contract and sent Irving to the minors. Irving gets the start on saturday and even if things don't go well, he gets the start against Minny as long as Kipper isn't back yet.

Interesting question, but Irving is the back-up now turned starter until Kipper gets back. Not a tough decision to keep going with him until he loses.

This was a big win for Irving. I could see some discussion if he lost but he didn't. Yeah he looked a little shaky at times but going back into my memory vault, Kipper didn't look that confident in his first few games with the Flames but he won and improved beyond imagination. I'm not saying Irving will follow the same path but he deserves the chance.

Almost like you can't wait for that to happen...

Of course you go with Irving, but I do think he looked shaky tonight. If he struggles and lets in some softies I have no problem with going ahead with Taylor. I have actually watched some ABB games and Taylor has by far outplayed Leland when comparing the two. I would like to see Taylor get at least one game before kipper returns.
