Default Harper and Company breaking the law again

http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/02...is-links-them/

It appears after first saying it was not them it actually was Harper who put out the misleading robocalls in Saskatchewan, in violation of the law.

Quote:
After initially denying any involvement, the Conservatives said Tuesday that they had failed to identify themselves as the source of the voice-broadcast to Saskatchewan residents last week.
The party blamed an “internal miscommunication” for the failure to identify itself and the origin of the call.
Not really surprising I guess. Good thing is favourite Senator is taking up some of the spotlight these days.

Ya, it was Jenni Byrne, the highest political staffer in Harper's entire operation, plausible deniability is definitely clearly there.

I'm pretty lefty on a lot of things, but this "Harper breaks the law, Harper destroys the environment, Harper ate a cat" trend of referring to the gov't as being soley Stephen Harper is super annoying. Fortunately when I hear it I can immediately discount most opinions by whichever group is up in arms, because they clearly have no concept of how executive leadership works and what delegation of authority is.

Now in defense of the whiny left's side of things this is the same government that instructed officials to replace "Government of Canada" with "Harper's Government" in communications.

I agree, but I tried using that exact same logic with the CPC partisans on this site when they claimed that Paul Martin and the entire Liberal Party were all equally to blame for the Sponsorship Scandal when in reality the wrongdoing was isolated to a few members of the PMO staff (possibly including Jean Chretien himself, although that was never confirmed). Needless to say, my argument was not met with much agreement.

There are a couple things:

1) Jenni Byrne was and is Harper's right hand lady. There is no political operative that is more powerful nor is there a political operative that reports directly to Harper moreso than Jenni.;

2) Byrne had real and apparent authority to bind the Party. Harper is the head of the CPC. Given the fact that she is not some mindless underling, but rather Harper's right hand lady, it seems somewhat less of a stretch to say that what happened in Saskatchewan came either directly from Harper or was fairly close. You are not talking about some kid kicking over lawn signs on this one.

But they have a history of top political aides (Patrick Muttart anyone) doing at best ethically questionable things and at worse illegal things (Hello Carson) but of course Harper has no idea what his top political advisors are doing.

We're still around. Hopefully the party will nominate one of us as leader and not another NDP-lite candidate.

While I'm not a Harper fan, and I do agree he is overly vilified. I compare him to Luongo those that like him think he's drastically better than he is. Those that don't think he's drastically worse than he is.

The thing with him being blamed for EVERYTHING is that he's so controlling of his party, and its people that when something goes wrong he takes the blame as his staff and cabinet and MPs don't have much of a voice without Harper's approval.

Hopefully the Grits do not get an empty headed populist who wants to cut the GST even though any knowledgeable economist would tell you that that is a bad move for the economy. Canada has had enough empty headed populists running the show for the past 7 years.

But let's be fair; he can't delegate everything. It wasn't the Conservative Party of Canada that ate that cat.
