Its a second rounder no matter what, the conditions typically determine what draft year the pick is for.
Could you imagine a goaltending tandem of Thomas/Nabokov? If the rest of the team wasnt such hot garbage that would be awesome.

Isn't it a conditional 2nd?
So possibly conditional on him actually playing for the Isle at some point.
Edit: someone beat me to it. Big risk by the isle here. Although watching them continually try and force players to play for them is pretty hilarious.

Does Visnovsky's cap hit still count for the Islanders?

You'd think if they'd offered to take on Gomez or Redden before their buyouts, they would have gained assets instead of giving them up. They must genuinly expect Thomas to play for them next season.

Boston will never get that 2nd rounder. Thomas won't report to the Islanders.
Interesting thing is Islanders can toll his contract for next year so they can keep getting the cap hit next year and not have to pay him a penny.

hmm, wow, just wow. Boston, what the hell.
First: Rask, Hamilton & Seguin
Now: They get a free 2nd rounder from a goalie they don't need.
###### you.

Thomas will never report to the Islanders so they have effectively just lowered the cap floor for themselves for life.

On a semi-related note; how the hell is Garth Snow still the GM of this sad-sack endeavor? Arent there more qualified guys available?
He and Wang must have had a hell of a time in Bangkok and ol' Garth knows where all the dead ladyboy hookers are buried.

And the year after, and the year after. Any player with a year left on his deal that's about to retire will now be going to a "have not" team until that loophole is closed 8 or 10 years from now in the new CBA.

If he doesn't report, doesn't that pretty much equal that he won't play another game in the NHL.

Wonder if the NHL and NHLPA will address this in short order.
The NHL will have teams that are contributing to revenue sharing pissed off.
The PA will be complaining about the players who are losing salary because the Isles don't have to sign anyone to reach the cap floor.

Unless the NHLPA argues it is deliberate cap circumvention, which it is.
