Sorry to hear you have become the first person ever in the history of the flying public to have their bags misplaced.
I'm only speculating, but I'm guessing your bags accidentally stayed on or re-boarded the plane in YVR and went back east. That's why it took so long to get back to you. Just a guess though. That, or they knew that you would be so upset about having to go to Tip Top and buy a new suit that thy just wanted to screw with you.
I'm also going to take a wild guess that you've had a stick up your arse about Wesjet prior to this anyway. You're pissed that your company didn't spring for first class like your Boston buddy, and just want to make a mountain out of a mole hill. Clearly just speculation though.
Chill out. It sucks, but it happens.

I will admit that I usually fly Westjet, but when I went to DC I did Air Canada/United thing and it was a good $300.00 cheaper then West Jets about $800 versus Westjets $1100.00.
For some reason the seats were a bit bigger on the air canada plane. the Stews were the Stews
I liked the movie selection on Air Canada but when I was flying back I missed the hockey game because they don't have live T.V.
On the negative side, they kept moving gates on me in Toronto and lost the pilot leading to a massive delay.

I also learned from flying never to take the last flight out of the Eastern US no matter who the carrier is. It used to happen most often with Northwestern. They liked to cancel a flight and blame it on weather. I got a chance to chat with a pilot once and he told me it has to do with pilots being over hours but if they can blame it on weather then they don’t have to put you up.
I compare my airline experiences to the same thing as building a house. As with a house, your experience depends on the crew you get....not the company as a whole.

Understandably cancellations often have nothing to do with the airlines. My problem with Westjet is more the completely lack of structure they have outside of Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto. You're in for a wild ride if anything happens outside of these 3 airports. Also, the whole notion of discount air carrier pisses me off. If I was getting a deal, I probably wouldn't have too much bad to say about Westjet (like when the company first started). But if you are charging me top north american dollar, which Westjet is, I expect the same as I would from any of the large carrier and maybe even a little more than then the US carriers. Just a smile will not suffice.

Funny how we have different experiences with airlines. Of the dozen times I have flown with air canada, I have been inconvenienced every time, ranging from captain being late for his flight to rude flight attendants.
I have never had an issue with Westjet. The only time I have experience an inconvenience was a flight delay, but hey, that happens in every airline. Westjet flight attendants have always been very friendly and helpful to me.
I only continue to fly air canada because of my remaining aeroplan miles. If given the choice, I'd tell air canada to go F themselves.

Westjet will no longer have live tv as well. I don't believe even if they still have it for now that they carry Sportsnet. So unless the game is on TSN or CBC, you wouldn't get to watch a lot of Flames games anyways.
Often too, once you cross the border, you lose a lot of channels on Westjet.

I do find the flight attendants on Air Canada to be quite rude (union workers so I would not expect anything else), but as long as I have a comfortable seats, some decent entertainment, and I get there relatively on time for a reasonable cost, I honestly could careless of the flight crew saluted me with an F-U as I got one and off the plane.

Well, not for me. I couldn't stand rude customer service. I get that day in and day out. I'd much rather have people who are pleasent and greet me without rolling their eyes because I look sloppy (rushing to catch the plane to attend in-between meetings).

Amazing. It's all I pack if I need a suit while travelling.

I enjoy the different levels of respect I get depending on my appearance. I generally roll a little bit scruffy: hair messy, untrimmed beard, casual clothes. Far from hobo material, however. But when I actually see the public for work, I clean up pretty nice. I get a lot more "sirs" if I've trimmed my beard and I am wearing a collared shirt.
/cool story bro
I'm not sure which airline treats me better in my various states, however. I don't really have any major gripes with either airline aside from the occasional delay, but one is not noticeably better than the other in any particular area.

Can't really blame westjet. It's more so the airport authorities internal baggage system where things get lost. The majority of lost baggage occurs from the luggage going on the wrong plane and not when it gets off.
Westjet does offer delivery or a westjet credit though when it happens at least. Air Canada didn't even off that to me.

I generally clean up, but sometimes when you just attended a meeting, go back to the hotel to unwind, then have to rush off cause one of your team is ####ting the bed in an emergency situation, you don't have a whole lot of time to do so (usually I'll clean up on the plane). So I'd expect someone in customer service to be able to act accordingly, since I did pay for the flight, not the attitude.

That's what pisses me off with Air Canada. It isn't so much their "Air waitresses" as much as their counter people. Always seem to have a stick up their a$$.

I have preferred Air Canada to West Jet for a long time now. It's kind of nice to hear some people feel the same, and also that some have had some bad experiences with WestJet as well, just I don't feel like I'm totally crazy.
To those jumping on the OP because he's upset about not having his luggage and telling him to chill - I hope you have never been upset about having to spend $200 plus (sorry, don't know what men's suits cost) and rush to still get to a meeting on time. I find it hard to believe that many of you would shrug and say "oh, well, such is life" in that situation.

Flew Air Canada for the first time in a looong time recently, and was quite pleased both with the airplane and the crew.
WestJet isn't always the cheapest anymore, and certainly doesn't have the same customer service focus they had when they were young. My sister is a long time FA with WestJet and how they've changed how they treat their FAs has certainly impacted things and has cooled my opinion of the company (though I figure most companies go through this kind of thing as they grow).
And they lost my sister's luggage once when we were travelling (eventually it was found), just on vacation, I've never had it happen to me but it SUCKS. They weren't particularly helpful but one of the airport people was super when they found out.
My wife had some lost luggage on Continental and they were very helpful and kept her quite up to date and drove it out to us when it finally arrived.

I find Westjet to be the Canadian Airline equivalent of Molson Canadian. You know it's mediocre, but it's been marketed as such a Canadian/Western icon (especially here in Calgary), that saying anything negative about it is almost taboo.

Westjet is never the cheapest anymore. It's dollar for dollar the same cost as Air Canada, which is the highest of any carrier to get you to your North American destination. Air Canada puts a sale up, Westjet matches and vice versa.

We try our best to only have carry-on. In cases where we have to have a checked piece of luggage, we try and pack our essentials and important stuff in our carry-ons in case the checked luggage gets lost or delayed.
It has definitely taught me to pack as efficiently as possible.
