He will be well rested for our playoff run.

i definitely think we will hit 3rd place this year. Pays to be in the weakest division in the league.

That is simply not true.

People were saying the same in 2003/04 when Turek and McLennan went down with injury and the Flames desperately traded a 2nd to the Sharks for their 3rd string goaltender who the previous season has posted a poor 3.25GAA and .879SV%

And look how that turned out.

Statement from Miikka:

Quote:
"In the second period I felt some discomfort in the lower body area. During the intermission, it was decided that I not return to play. I really believe that this is a short term injury and over the next days, I'll work toward being ready as soon as possible."

Weird that Miikka released a statement...just unusual to ever really hear him speak in the media.

I think the injury to Kipper is a blessing in disguise. It will allow us to see what we have in the pipeline, and assess whether or not Irving is deserving of another contract.

I have appreciated all that Kipper has done for this team but the bottom line is that he has not been very good this year thus far, and our W-L record probably would not be that different if our backups played the first 6 games of the season.

It was my impression that he was the #3 goaltender as well based on playing time. Maybe he was injured or something? But I would have had to think that if the Lockout went the full season, Irving may have been loaned somewhere else.

It honestly couldn't better for Irving starting against one of the weakest teams in the NHL.

Getting 20 minutes last night and stopping all six shots he faced, now heading to Columbus where he'll face a weak team. It's the perfect formula for him gaining confidence and performing well for the team.

Watch out! Tom Erixon is on a one game goal scoring streak. Begin and Iginla needs to hit the crap out of him tomorrow.

Dubinsky is likely out for the game as well.

As he had to clear waivers in order to play as a full member of the Heat he was signed by them to a PTO for the season so he could get some playtime. I think a PTO in the AHL limits the player to 10 or 15 games (I'd have to look it up). He was third in games played because unlike the other two he had a finite number of allowable games to play and would have been better used later in the season if the lockout went for the full year, and it made more sense to play their actual full time goaltenders more often.

He wasn't the third goalie based on them being better, it was a contract constraint. The fact that he didn't show well in the few games he played though made it appear as he was the third stringer.

Under the old CBA, wasn't he limited to a total of 10 games in the AHL or else he would have to clear waivers to get back to the Flames?

Never mind - see above post

Wish Kipper a speedy recovery. The way the team has been playing, I think we are more than capable of winning games with anyone half-decent in net.

Somewhat unrelated but since we're on the topic of Columbus and Tom Erixon, who is a bigger jerk? Schultz or Erixon?
