It is only an empty arena if they actually go with the nonsense from the old council and 'board it up.' Sprint Center in Kansas City is an "empty arena" as well but it has been doing fine.
Sure there's more competition in the desert, but that wasn't a problem when Moyes had Jobing as the busiest arena in Arizona for non-sporting events. Take away the expensive operating costs of a hockey rink in the desert and the costs are low and you can set yourself up to be the prime concert venue in the state. People are still coming to the arena, still buying food at Westgate, and they're not saddled with the costs of maintaining ice.
That might not be the biggest money making venture either given that they have to pay an arena manager (at a cost they don't know because they were encouraged NOT to find the market rate for managing an arena because it would hurt a potential sale and a single-source bid for the contract), but the city has never contemplated the fact they might only be able to minimize their losses with the arena, only gone on with the delusion of Clarkonomics.
In the end their option is simple: potentially make a small profit but likely operate at a reduced loss OR definitely lose eight figures a year because the AMF is ~$13M more than the sales tax revenue brought in from Westgate.

I haven't ignored that at all, you're now manufacturing conflict. My original point was that we can't draw on historical evidence yet since this is a new council and one that seems pretty opposed to any further concessions.

... what? How do you get that from "I wish I could short sell the City of Glendale in my portfolio"? Could you please read the words on the page and not the ones you're seeing in your head?

I'm going to sit here and say that you're being incredibly thick.
Why would I think that the last deal council made was a good deal for the city if I made the quip that I wanted to short sell CoG? How does an asset gaining value (if the deal is perceived to be a good one) help a short sell? (Hint: It doesn't.)
I think that CoG is boned no matter which way you slice it.

Sale efforts continue for Phoenix Coyotes in Glendale
http://www.azcentral.com/community/g...nclick_check=1
Canadian marketing executive Anthony LeBlanc, who previously headed another group interested in buying the Coyotes, said a new deal with the city would be critical for any potential buyer.
“Look, the reality is that any potential owner, myself included, will require a deal with the city that is very, very similar to the one that was on the table over the last several months,” he told The Arizona Republic.
LeBlanc declined to say whether he considered himself a potential owner now and he declined further comment. He previously headed Ice Edge Holdings, which tried but didn’t succeed in purchasing the team in 2010.

Phoenix Coyotes update
- Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers discusses the future of the Phoenix Coyotes staying in Glendale, now that a deal to keep the team there has fallen through.
I think Weiers is hinting that a new COG deal will contain an out clause for the eventual owner.

When the Coyotes beat the Minnesota Wild 2-1, the game produced the highest regular season rating for the Coyotes on FOX Sports Arizona since 2004.
According to Nielsen Media Research, the Feb. 4 telecast generated of 1.5 rating/2 share in the Phoenix market (27,039 Phoenix households). The game peaked at 2.0 rating during the 9:15 pm quarter hour (36,052 Phoenix HH). Prior to last night, the last time a Coyotes regular season game on FOX Sports Arizona did a rating this high was on Jan. 9, 2004 at Minnesota. That telecast did a 1.7 and it was the game in which Coyotes goalie Brian Boucher set the NHL’s consecutive shutout record.
27,000 HH seems like a good number, when 3,000 HH has been reported before. About 9,500 was the attendance.

Paul Giblin reports on COG meeting:
https://twitter.com/PaulGiblinAriz
Alvarez is willing to let #Coyotes go. Weiers said he's willing to listen to other bids by others.
Councilman Manny Martinez says he's willing to hear other bids by potential #coyotes owners.
Councilman Gary Sherwood wants an outside negotiator to work on future #Coyotes deal. Says be prepared for #NHL-less future.
Council tells Skeete to do all of the above: deal with potential new #Coyotes owners and seek a proposal for arena management.
Weiers says there are a couple of "very strong possibilities" for new #Coyotes ownership, but doesn't name names. Offers could come soon.

I've mentioned this before, but it's worth repeating: CoG should consider buring the arena down in the middle of the night and collecting the insurance money.

Didn't realize it was a derogatory term. Thought it was an insurance industry buzz word. Sorry if I offended anyone.

I'd never heard it before... It is funny, albeit insensitive.
I really wish I knew more Jewish people, they seem like fun.
