Wow. Boomer is absolutely freaking out about Kiprusoff's injury, and the prospect of leaning on Leland Irving for a number of games. Honestly, I'm not nearly so worried.

I'm (obviously) hoping this is a short term injury. Maybe having Kipper out for 4-5 games might be what Irving needs to light a fire under his ass to prove he can be the man.

I believe Boomer is basically echo-ing what many fans are thinking.... if the injury is long term. Flames are in trouble....
Leland has played ~ 8 games so far as a Pro.
He was the 3rd Goalie in AHL for a reason.....
It would be interesting to see what Feaster will do, if Kipper is out for weeks rather than days.
Personally I believe its a minor injury... (maybe hope is the better word)
I'm no doctor but that sounds like a Penis injury.
No way, I have a buddy who got a softball one hopped into his junk and there was no way he was finishing the game. If it was indeed a penis injury I'm sure Kipper would have been out of there. Guys don't screw around with penis injuries (no pun intended).
Roger Millions @RogMillions#Flames Kiprusoff with team in Columbus. team to practice with Irving and fill in netminder not on roster early this afternoon
If it was that bad, they'd send him home, right? Riiiiiight?

"I could see that Kip wasn't feeling great," said Irving. "He was favouring... uh... his lower body."
Such a great quote. Almost gave away what the injury was, then caught himself just in time.
It is kindof silly that teams are so secretive about injuries though. If he could tell which side Kipper was favoring, is there any chance that other teams' scouts wouldn't be able to figure it out?

I think this is probably right, and clearly this must be considered a setback if it is indeed longterm. However...

One minor correction: Irving has played 8 NHL games, but has played a total of 196 games of professional hockey. In his eight NHL games, it must be conceded that he has looked very good, save for one really, REALLY abysmal performance in Boston.

He played poorly earlier this season, and since his return from a very good callup to the Flames last year. But if you read some of Pierre the Monster Maguire's more detailed analysis of Irving in several of his posts, it seems that there are a number of significant factors that affected his most recent AHL play.
I understand the concern. I only think that it needs to be tempered considerably until after at least a game or two for Irving. Now is certainly not the time to trade for another goalie, or to sign a retread. I think Boomer is likely playing up the alarm because it makes for good radio, but even feigned panic at this stage is extremely premature.

A friend of mine ran into Rick Tabaracci on a golf course in Phoenix yesterday. He's in good shape and uhhh can hit the ball 300 yards. Apparently he's suiting up to try and make a comeback with the Flames.

Put Butler in Goaile Gear and keep him on the bench, let Sarich back on the ice.
Tightens up our D, and doesn't burn a contract by having to sign Taylor or Brust.
Hell, if Irving goes down, Butler may have to learn how to block a shot..... could be win win...
My guess it is a knee strain, or groin strain. And it cannot be too serious for a few reasons. One he flew to Columbus, and two he walked with no braces or limps. However maybe like Warrener just said, he is getting further testing in Columbus. I am optimistic he will be back in a week. Give Irving a couple starts and bring up Broissont, Ortio or Taylor/Brust on a PTO if need be.

Thats the way i see it also. My only concern is if Irving has a bad game tomorrow. He might be on a very short leash. Flames wanted Ramo to be back up this year. After Irving won back up job there were rumblings that they were looking for another back up goalie. So if he has a bad game do they rush Kipper back to soon? Do they spend assets on someone like Bishop?
Geez talk about panic, I was amazed to see how many people wrote off last nights game as a loss against detroit with a two goal lead, BEFORE Irving had even faced a shot!
Kipper is getting older and like it or not he is probably going to have more of these "tweak injuries". It's up to the younger flames goaltenders to step up when the pressure is on and see if they can handle it.
I'll reserve my final judgement on Irving until I see him play a couple of full games, but I thought he looked fine last night coming in as relief. Irving is getting a big opportunity to show he can handle it. If he shows he can't I wouldn't be surprised to see him gone next year and one of the heat goalies in his place.
He was the third goalie with the Heat because he couldn't/didn't want to sign with a European team during the lock out and the Flames didn't want him sitting around. By signing with the Heat it allowed him to stay in Canada with his young family and stay sharp working with the affiliate of his NHL team.
Irving could only dress for a max of 20 games. The Heat already has two 'AHL veteran' goalies so why get Irving in, when he's already established that he can play at that level. It was more important to have Irving ready to compete for the back up job when the lockout ended. Now Irving has his chance to show that he can play in the NHL.
