Irving was likely going to start the Columbus game anyways, and I wouldn't mind him for the Canucks game either. Remember what he did the last time he played in Vancouver? That would give Kipper 6 days off, hopefully enough time to get of a minor malady.

Brossoit could be signed to an ATO, so as to not burn an NHL contract; this has been done before in emergency situations

Apparently we can sign a goalie to a PTO. Page 17 of 24 of the new CBA,
Quote:
Provision for a Professional Tryout Agreement for goaltenders (without cap charge/consequence) to
address emergency injury situations for goaltenders as agreed to by and between the NHL and the
NHLPA.

I'm not sure if this is just for an amateur goalie on a one game basis as has been done in the past or if Taylor or Brust could be called up.

Having a short term injury where Irving can get a few starts in a row might be a good thing. This is how goalies get their chance. In the past 5 years with Kipper never missing anytime none of our goalies have had a chance to develop. So If kipper is out for 5 games or so we should role with Irving and see what hes got.

This is how Kipper got his chance when Turek went down.

This is clearly Hartleys greatest move yet. 2 goal lead going into third, Kipper how's that leg feeling, "feels great...err i mean it's a little stiff" put Irving in there without all the lead up pressure. Win the game, two confident goaltenders.
Profit?

Flames have easily been the luckiest team in net for the last 8 years having a reliable goalie like Kipper in net. We all knew this day would come: our #1 goalie goes down and we get to see what this team is really made of.
I honestly think Irving will take it and run. I have absolute faith in him, moreso then I ever did in Cujo, Mchilhenny or any other backup we've had since Turek. Irving has been groomed for years now, we all knew this day would come. I'm actually excited to see how well he performs.

I agree. With the 2 goal lead, no pressure on Irving if he comes in, the team's playing well, it's the perfect time to take precautionary measures if Kipper tweaked something.
Hence, I don't think it'll be anything serious. But, I do look forward to seeing how Irving does in the meantime!

I am thinking he tweaked his right knee when Franzen ran into him. Hopefully he'll be fine.

Yes, because your starting goaltender never gets hurt during a game. Nope. Never happens.

I have to believe it is a tweaked groin...and they can be a bit finicky to heal particularly on a G and especially on a guy as flexible and acrobatic as Kipper is...so even if its just a week or 10 days, someone will be signed to a deal.
I would love to see Barry Brust get a shot because of his past ties to Calgary, but Tayor seems to be the #1 guy and probably deserves it a bit more.

It wouldn't be any worse than throwing Keetley into a game.

One game of relief work wouldn't be throwing him to the wolves, either, really.

Keetley did have a perfect save percentage in his 9 minutes of regular season action! Bring him back!

Here's the Herald article on the game.
Quote:
"We'll know (more Wednesday)," replied general manager Jay Feaster, when asked about the scenario, before striding away.
OK. There's already plenty to digest from Tuesday's developments.
Irving said the Flames bench knew Kiprusoff was ailing in the second period. (He'd been knocked over by Johan Franzen.)
"I could see that Kip wasn't feeling great," said Irving. "He was favouring, uh, his lower body."
Then, at the intermission, he got word — he was going in.

If Kipper is out for a bit here, I hope the Flames don't go out and burn an asset bringing somebody else in right away.
Lets give Irving a shot. IMO he looked good in every game last year but the Bruin debacle, and we need to find out if the kid can actually play at the NHL level. Now might be the chance.
If we need a gate opener for a bit, PTO one of the Abby goalies until either Kipper comes back, or Irving proves himself unable to take the reigns.
