Gotta give the defense credit, really steady night for them. Bouwmeester continues to play well. And Wideman has been a fantastic addition. Seems like they're getting more goals from the blueline than I can remember for a while.

And well done, Irving. Very calm and cool back there. Great to see.

Great team defense and countering offense

Butler was one of the best players on the ice.

It doesn't hurt when your team starts playing defence inside the other team's blueline. Great stickwork all night from every line.

I'm starting to come around to the idea that Hartley might be a better coach for this team than Sutter was.

I think Irving was going to start in Columbus anyways so if Kipper's injury isn't serious, nothing is lost.

Good road win. Team played a pretty simple game and worked very hard defensive to limit Detroit's chances. Thought they could have competed harder in the second period but that late Wideman goal proved huge especially after Iginla's missed shootout attempt.

Wideman, Bouwmeester, Backlund Calgary's three best players for sure. Wideman is great with the puck and is very responsible in the D zone. Bouwmeester seems to be playing with a lot of confidence. He is using that huge reach so well. Backlund doing a lot of good things out there - would love to see him get some powerplay time though powerplay has been fine so tough to make that work.

Cammalleri with a very strong game and did some good things offensively. Still not firing the puck but gotta think that will come.

Hulder and Cervenka weren't very good tonight though Stajan did a good job in the defensive zone.

Brodie showed a lot of confidence throughout though potentially costly blunder to start the third when he turned it over to Tootoo. Looks great with Wideman.

Comeau really really struggling. I don't know what he brings exactly. Worst case he is good on the PK but he was horrible there tonight blowing clearing attempts including one that ended up in the back of the net.

The team has shown is can score goals from a lot of different sources. They are scoring and Iginla/Cammalleri have one goal. Gotta think the team could actually become pretty dangerous offensively if those guys can get going. Was interesting that Iginla wasn't out on the 5-on-3.

Kiprusoff was looking very good the first couple periods. Irving looked fine in the third but the team did a great job clamping down and limiting any high quality chances. I'm not a believer in Irving given that he wasn't even the starter in the AHL so will be interesting to see what happens in the coming days.

The team is different than what we have seen the last couple years but still a very hard read at this point. Would be great to beat Columbus Thursday and get to .500.

Good all around game. Kipper was looking good. If hes down for any period of time do they give the reigns to Irving?

Comeau, seriously the guys stick is made of rubber, never seen a guy whiff on pucks so many times in my life. Okay, slight exageration but you know what I mean.

Cervenka played his first real weak game today, some nice plays but was kind of lost out there for most of his time.

Feels good to get a win. Next up, a dubinsky less Columbus team.
