It's not that big of an issue, just annoying that I can't use the power button to turn on everything at once.

Do you use a universal remote or the telus remote?
I you use a universal remote you could add a delay in before the Pvr is powered in.
Does your tv have an Internet connection or a USB port? There might be a firmware update that will help with the handshake.
I usually just press the ok button to turn my pvr on. I don't even use te power button for it.

Happens to me all the time. I will turn on the PVR, then my TV and I get no signal. In fact I would say at least 50% of the time, I have to turn on my tv, turn it off, then turn it back on and only then I will get a signal.
It's not the end of the world, but it's annoying as hell.

Telus is now giving a Samsung 40" smart TV on 3 year contract with Internet and TV. The Tv comes 2-4 weeks after service is installed.

I'm moving and have a chance to switch to Telus now. Of course the girl at Shaw tried to scare me off with stories of bandwidth issues while doing multiple things ie: watching tv, pvr, and internet at once.
Those of you that have switched and have heavy usage what advice can you give me?

Currently recording 2 HD shows, watching HD hockey, playing online multiplayer game and 2 wifi devices actively using connection - zero problems.
I've never experienced a bandwidth problem.

I decided to go with it, the place we are moving to Shaw ran the wires above ground over our sidewalk. The neighbor 3 houses down runs through our backyard . . . . sketchy.

Heavily considering switching from Shaw to Optik. Love the channel selection and promos (Free Samsung TV and 2 additional HD receivers).
Questions:
1. If I understood him correctly, the rep I talked to in-store said that they have to re-wire your TV connections to use Ethernet cables. Is this true?
2. Do the additional HD receivers have to be hardwired to the main PVR, or are they wireless with a main access point?

1. No they don't re-wire your connections, use your existing in-wall runs.
2. All the receivers are connected via the coax cable. All the cables join up at the modem type junction box.
So basically, it's much more simple than that rep made it out to be.

That makes way more sense. Thanks for your help.

FYI. Loop bonding has gone live in Calgary and surrounding areas. If you are looking for more bandwidth, you should be able to get it now.

Is this different than Optik Turbo?
I just called and switched from Regular Optik (15mbps) to the Turbo (25mbps).

Yup, many times since the service first came out.
Telus TV tech's always say 'had to clear cache', blocked whatever a ma call its.

Apparently "the 50mbps ports are not setup in your area yet..." WTF it's a 5 year old house in a new neighbourhood. Hopefully PsnaP can help me! Or at least confirm that I am SOL

Hopefully I can still get it, the Telus guy on the phone said everything was ok and then he went to finalize the order and another system said there wasn't a port available.
He was going to take it to another department to get it all figured out and call me back.
