Florida looks to have some serious talent, and out of all of them I think Gudbranson is going to have the biggest impact on the franchise in terms of performance.

Kid is gonna be Pronger-esqe.

^Has been said many times about many a defensive prospect and you just really never know until they're in their mid 20's.

Less offensive than flabbergasted. How you can call the established top line for over a year a part of the prospect pool just boggles the mind.

JFC what a ridiculous statement.

Actually, it was quite simply downright objectionable, no matter how you choose to spin it.

Surely there are more intelligent ways to express your confusion and opinion.

And see my previous definition of prospect. What you are arguing is more in line with a discussion concerning amateur and professional players.

Actually Hall and Eberle are still in their final year of their ELC. Their new 6 million dollar deals don't kick in place until 2013-14 season.

If you think everyone under 25 is a prospect, then I don't know what to tell you, because that bears no resemblance to the common usage of that term in hockey parlance. Hockey's Future is extremely liberal with their definition of a prospect and even they set the cap at 65 games: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/whatmakesaprospect/

Generally people talk about a "prospect" being not yet established at the NHL level and under 23 years old.

You're right, bad wording on my part, the point isn't the money they're actually making it's that they're clearly well-established pro's - no one signs a guy who isn't a full-fledged NHL'er to a 6 million dollar deal.

For goalies I would say Anaheim and Florida.

Anaheim:
John Gibson (USA WJ goalie)
Igor Bobkov (Russia WJ goalie from 09-11)
Frederik Andersen (rookie in the AHL, and in the top 10)

Florida:
Jacob Markstrom (arguably the best goalie prospect, despite his diving antics)
Sam Brittain (Calgary kid playing in NCAA)
Michael Houser (CHL goalie of the year 11-12)

The way I see it, is it goes prospect/rookie/sophmore then just another pro player.

Dont forget Scott Harrington who has been steller on Team Canada's blueline for the last to World Jr's.

My terminology is strictly based in physiology. A person (usually/normally/typically), isn't "full-baked", so to speak, until approximately the age of 25. By that time the literal denotation of "prospect" (prospective) is no longer applicable, as the player (and person) has biologically peaked and a fully-informed evaluation can be made.

Gretzky, Crosby, etc. were all first line players their very first year of playing eligibility, but they got better as time went on.

Then their are the exceptions, aka "late bloomers", usually cut from the goaltending ilk.

Eberle, Hall, RNH, and to a lesser extent Paajarvi, still have yet to reach and show their full potential and thus should be technically classified as prospective, or prospects.

You can make up your own terms all you like - hell, you can decide to call a sloughfoot a hipcheck if you want, or call a slapshot a backhand. But there are meanings to words in a sport that are established by general use, and at least by that standard, your terminology is wrong.

Prospect IMO is a player who hasn't reached the rookie level in whatever league he is on

the only of the Oilers gamut of 1st overall players that's a prospect to me is Yakupov

that's why you see some places do top prospect lists and top under 25 lists, they are a different area

Well based on the terminology of hockey, a prospect is a player who has been drafted by a team and has yet to play for the NHL club. Rookie is a first year, Sophomore is second year, and after that they're just a young NHL player.
