In 20 years there will be a similar thread and my kids will say that when growing up they had no idea what the "half wall" was. "Looks like the boards are the same height all around the ice".
I used to think that +/- referred to how good or bad that player played that game.. which I guess is true.. but I assumed they were assigned based on a good or bad play.. not goals scored for/against.
My Mom let me do it for a while before she corrected me, must have found it amusing.
"Tikkanen you rat, that is another - for you!!! Keep it up buddy!"

-I thought when a goalie got pulled, the coach would yell out ''Poland goalie'' and somehow this polish chant allowed the goalie to leave
-Andrei Trefilov and Trevor Kidd were my favorite Flames back in the 90s. I used to think they were both incredible goalies...
-I thought the lockout in '94 was a strike
-I didn't think Iggy was anything special
-I had no idea the value of NHL contracts. I thought they made the same amount as normal people do
-I thought Manon Rheaume was a superstar goalie because she was a female. I was at the very first game the Tampa Bay Lightning ever played at the 'dome and they also became my favorite team right after
I could never understand how players could play hockey with all the advertisements on the boards, I thought they were so distracting and I'd catch myself reading them all game while watching them.
My wife could never figure out why we called Glencross by both his first (Glen) and last (Cross) name all the time, she thought it was so strange until she seen my sisters wedding invitation to him and finally realized it was his last name.
- I couldn't figure out why the fans would boo when Hakan Loob touched the puck.
- I didn't understand why Peter Maher would say a goalie made a bad save, but he was actually saying pad save.
- I thought that only Flames fans were allowed in the Saddledome, and Oilers fans were allowed in Northlands, and Habs fans in the Forum, etc. etc.
- I thought that everybody in Calgary was a hockey fan, and that everybody loved the Flames. When I moved to Lethbridge I didn't expect any different and was in for a rude awakening
- I thought that rookie meant a player's first year with their team. I felt bad for Joe Mullen because he was traded to the Flames in the middle of the year and didn't stand a chance to win rookie of the year because for only half of the year he was a rookie.
- I thought that the higher the GAA the better. When I saw a Rogie Vachon hockey card list his stats from his one game played in 71-72 with a GAA of 12.00, I thought that he was the best goalie ever!

I can remember in my first year of organized hockey (4 years old) being on a 2-on-0 as the player without the puck and stopping dead at the offensive blue line. I was playing d and that's as far a those guys were allowed to go. My dad quickly explained after that that is more of a positional guideline then a rule, never less, the next game I was playing forward and refused to play d the rest of my life.

My father had me convinced in the 80s that the Flames' success and my good behaviour were directly related, and obviously any bad behaviour on my part (especially while he was watching the game) led to Oilers victories.
I felt much guilt throughout my younger years.

After my first live NHL game of Flames-Jets at the Winnipeg Arena first row behind the goalie I wondered why they all didn't have big mustaches like Lanny as it looked like great padding when he got his face slammed into the glass.
I used to wonder how nobody ever got killed by pucks flying over the end glass behind the goalies. Then years later in Columbus I think it happened, and the netting came in.
Rick Wamsley lived in the same neighbourhood (Woodbine), as a Flames obsessed 10 year old, naturally my friend and I figured out where he lived. I was under the impression the Flames brought their equipment home after every game just like we did. So we would try and figure out ways to sneak into his house and "borrow" his goalie mask. Vernon was still wearing that stupid helmet, so this was the only Flames mask in town...and in my mind it was pretty simple to make it mine.
Looking back, that's some pretty creepy stuff. I spent a lot of time thinking about that mask. I wonder if he still has it?...and where he keeps it
