Applebee's Overnight Social Media Meltdown

I had Applebee's last night and it was delicious. Cool story bro.

I'm amazed at how worked up some people get over Facebook. Not only Applebees' social media people spamming all night, but also the thousands of people bothering to comment on the matter, not to mention the guy who wrote that blog post linked in the OP who took the time to take dozens of screen captures and stayed up until 5 am following along.

I mean, it's a ****** chain restaurant. Who cares? As if their disgusting food wasn't reason enough to avoid going there.

I'm not going to say that I am a huge tipper, and to keep it in perspective, I don't go to many expensive places.

But if I go out with a group of friends and say my tab is $20, I am not going to leave a measly $3 tip simply because it calculates to 15%. I'll round it up to $5 at least.

If I go out with the wife and spend more, then the chances are, the 15% becomes something I'll pay more attention to.

The waitrees was dumb for posting that. PErsonally I never understand the whole auto-grat thing for a party of eight ........

The point of this is that what often happens is people pay for their own food and at the end the waitress gets no tip at all. Someone always shorts and that money comes out of the tip. As the waitress usually has to tip out the kitchen staff and whatnot, she actually ends up in the hole because of this issue. If it's included in the bill total, everyone gets their share.

They earn the tip simply by bringing the food and drinks and dealing with the general public. The dance monkey dance because I'm entitled thing is hilarious.

i am cheap then, i generally don't tip much more than 8% reagrdless of how much RANCH sauce THE SERVER brings me!!!!1!!!!111111.

Applebees is making themselves look like fools PR wise. They did the right thing, but have handled the backlash so badly.

In months time everyone that goes to Applebees and commented on their FB/Twitter will move on and return. Unless they truly feel like boycotting a standard food chain that's just doing it's job.

Your salary at work isn't determined with the intention that a third party effectively subsidizes it. If you don't tip, they'll just increase the server's hourly wage to compensate and build it into the price of food.

I think some people in this thread are expecting far too much professionalism from an $9/hour server at the fine establishment that is Applebees.

I think the server wage in the US is even lower than that. I just checked the Missouri minimum wage for tipped employees and its only $3.67/hour. So yeah, getting screwed out of a tip is a big deal for those servers.
