I agree with you on that.
Short term, this was really, really fun.
Long term, this was really, really pathetic.
Long term matters more than short term though (or at least, it's ultimately what I choose to look at). During the game itself I had fun. Now that the game is over it doesn't matter anymore. Doesn't take away from the enjoyment I experienced during the game, and the team did put up a good show and had a great effort.
But it still comes down to one thing for me: long term, it simply wasn't good enough.
(Okay I know I'm repeating myself here - I'll stop now. It's just frustrating, and will remain frustrating until ownership/management realizes that the dream is over and actually starts doing something about it, i.e. trading Iginla.)

From TSN:
"That was criminal. They've got to call the cops after that performance. (Emery) stole two points. He was spectacular," said Chicago coach Joel Quenneville. "I've never ever been outplayed, outchanced like that in my life. "
Also, Flames have only had more shots in a period twice, then the 24 they had in the 3rd tonight...in 2005 and 1988, when they had 25.

Well, just finished watching this one. I thought the Flames would win for sure once Bouwmeester scored. But yet l alas, another heartbreaking loss.
Nonetheless, a very entertaining game and the Flames looked great, but there was still way too much passing and too many forced attempted fancy plays, particularly by the usual culprit in Tanguay.
Emery was stone cold awesome, unfortunately. Where did that performance come from? Of course be got lucky couple times as well.
Oh well.

And what, miss all the pie-eyed optimists play the "what if" game, and spin a loss into something more than it is!?
The hawks took the Flames, currently one the NHL bottom feeders, too lightly. And still came away with the win.
Last time I checked, it's a free country and people can still post their opinion, whether you agree with it or not

Hartley needs to get Cammalleri away from the top six, regardless of whether that means benching him, scratching him, or whatever. He has been nothing but useless this season.

Not sure what you were watching tonight, that was far and away his best game of the season.

Disappointing finish but that was the most exciting hockey game I've been to. Loved it! Please keep playing that style of hockey.

Stajan is the one guy you do want on the ice in that situation. He is probably our best defensive center and easily our best faceoff man, you need him out there in case we ice the puck and need him for a late draw in our end.

As an old timer I can't see an OT loss as a loss...it is listed in the standings the way a tie was. 1 point was awarded.
Personally I'd like to see 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie. NO REGULAR SEASON OT.

I understand this sentiment because Cammalleri hasn't been producing offensively. At the same time the Flames need him to a be a top nine forward; at this point I am beginning view the top lines as 1A, 1B, 1C.
I think Cammalleri played well tonight. He was strong on the boards and in the corners, created some traffic in front of the net. He's working hard. It's too bad he put it off the iron in the first, but that is how the season is going for this team so far.

That was the most entertaining Flames game I can recall seeing in years. I'm not even particularly disappointed that they lost because they so deserved to win. Glencross will have nightmares tonight after so many missed chances.
If they can keep that up, they might actually make the playoffs this year. And if they don't, at least I'll enjoy watching them all season - much more than in recent seasons.
Very satisfied with tonight's performance. Completely expected Chicago to score in the last 34 seconds - it was just that kind of game. But a great performance by the Flames nonetheless. They should be very encouraged after this one.

While I think they played amazing tonight and have the potential to be a decent team if they play like that every game, great times find a way to win and the Flames once again could not do that.
------------------------------
Tonight was a huge blow to a very poor start to a very sort season for a team that has already dug themselves quite the hole. I'll have to be excused for not being happy with the effort tonight since that get's us absolutely nothing in the end. Ok it did get us a point but we are falling so far behind these single point's won't cut it.
However if they continue to play like this, I will be far more entertained watching Flames hockey that I have been for quite a few years and that is actually a pleasant surprise.

So we outchanced out played and out shot the opposition and we lost. Moral victories amount to exactly jack squat. You dont make the playoffs on moral victories. You cant trade good efforts in for points. Any other opinions are just fluff.

Question- Would you try Irving next game while the team is playing strong and really limiting shots against, and Kipper is looking shaky? I know they almost surely won't go that way, but theoretically I just have a hunch that it would get the team going having a refreshed goalie in, and at the same time would give Kipper extra motivation coming back.
Fact is, Kips had very few shots to deal with over the past few games, and yet he's let in multiple goals each game, with save percentages under .900 . I'm a big kipper fan, but right now we NEED wins. I just feel he's being uncharacteristically soft (for his standards). And in the circumstances, I don't think we can wait for him to iron out his issues, whilst allowing 3+ goals on 18-20 shots per game. It's just not good enough to close things out when we need him to. Maybe Irving, being rested and refreshed, could come in for Detroit and be solid enough to spot the team with the way the offense is playing.
Just what I would do.

News flash. We got one point tonight instead of two.
That's not jack squat. And we were playing the best team in the league.

Next game, no matter if its Irving or Kiprusoff playing well, and the Flames as a team playing very well as they have the last two games, I expect the Wings will hang around, tied or down by one.
Like clockwork, midway through the 3rd, DET get one of the blatantly patented "benefit of the doubt calls" from the referees that they feast on at home. That call turns the tide and momentum, and ultimately probably ends up in one or two goals and, changes the result of the game.

Wow! Really impressed with the performance tonight on nearly all fronts. Yeah, Cammalleri could've been better but altogether I thought the team performed well. Some times that's just how the game goes.
And let's not forget that Chicago is the best team in the league (at least according to the standings). There's no shame in taking a point off the Hawks. If we can do this to a super stacked team in Chicago, imagine what we can do to most other teams in the league! Just gotta put in this effort every night and I know that our group can do it because we show a lot of heart. Some thing that most teams in the league aren't able to match.
Go Flames!

I'd say no. I thought Kipper bounced back and had a very strong game tonight. he's shown that ability in the past to do so after a bad game and despite the L I thought he was very solid tonight.
He's our No. 1 guy and I think he needs to build off that performance. Wait for a 2nd night of a back to back to put Irving in.

The team played great, Kipper was fine.
I wouldn't change a thing next game. Same roster, just roll with it.
What more do people want? They didn't lose because of a few weak links, they played well but missed chances and Emery played like Tretiak. Same roster, move on to the next game.
