He did what you're supposed to do when you take a shot.... he tried to trick Emery into thinking he was going to deke, then took the shot.

I thought for sure he'd shoot low blocker though, that seems to be his fave spot, but he went high glove here.

I've got no issue with the move though.

We can jerk ourselves off all we want about how badly we out played the Hawks tonight and deserved to win....... Blah, blah.

It's evident that this team is simply not made up of winners. We have a losing culture now and it needs to be expelled. We find ways to lose, not win and have done for a few years now.

How do you out shoot hem that badly and lose? How do you get a lead with 30 secs left and blow it? How do you have a full 4 on 3 in OT and not find a way

Losing culture, that needs to be addressed at the leadership level of this team. It's not not something you can analyze with stats, but anyone who has played any competitive sport knows its real. This team is not a winning group, and needs to be re worked.

Somone made a thread on Cervenka and it showed his shoot out attemps. All highlights were him shooting.

When was the last time the Flames honestly dominated an "elite" team like that?

2008/09 at the Dome vs San Jose IIRC.

...of course we got the two points that night though.

They dominated the Hawks in the Dome last year actually. That was not remotely close to the Hawks best effort tonight. They had nothing left in the 3rd period. If Emery had even an average game tonight the Flames win easily. The fact the Hawks come out of the game with 2 points simply just goes to show the difference between elite teams and also rans. Even when they are dead tired and don't deserve the game they make the key plays when presented and finish.

...fans finding solace in effort/dominating a game in a 48 game season is silly.

A wise man once said "it doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile - winning is winning"

Losing is losing. No excuses coming from Hartley or the team. Another loss in a 48 game schedule is another step away from the playoffs.

Bad teams lose games they shouldn't, good teams win games they shouldn't.

I'm not sure why the Stajan line was out in the final 30 seconds? are they our checking line now too?

We needed Yelle, Gelinas and Otto out there!

I remember Jim Peplinski saying that in an 80 game season there will be 20 games that no matter what you do you will win. There are another 20 games that no matter what you do, you will lose. It's the other 40 games that separate the good from the poor.

I'm okay with chalking this up as one of the 20 they were destined not to win, be happy with the point and move on.

(Pro-rate the 20 to 12 for the short season)

More passion this year than last. Then again we play a more exciting brand of hockey than what Brent offered us

That was a grey performance from the Flames. They threw everything at the net, and I definitely agree that they had a chance to score on the majority of those 47 shots.

Biggest things for me, lack of movement on the power play, as in the skaters moving. They were kind of lucky to get the 1-1 goal, and they really need to work on moving players around. That would have given them some better chances. Don't just look for the one timer or bomb from the point, get the puck moving, move around and make short passes.

Second, I thought Brodie really struggled tonight; both with puck control and positioning. Not a terrible performance, but he was pretty rough around the edges. Not really the norm.

Hudler and Stajan were great, Cammalleri had more jump than I've seen all season, and the Glencross - Backlund - Stempniak line was spectacular aside from all the missed chances.

I'd actually send Baertschi down at this moment if he wasn't hurt. I'm just not sure where would make sense to play him.

Yikes, that was pretty exciting and terribly disappointing. They should have creamed the Blackhawks.

All that said, this team is still going to struggle, but that was at least an entertaining way to lose.

Your guys made a lot of chances...Glenncross cannot keep missing empty net-sides this way can he?

My team's skaters couldn't play much worse, especially in the D-end...but I have rarely seen better goaltending in a game, and I have been watching hockey since Glenn Hall was in net without a mask!

I think it is wrong to blame Kipper...your guys cannot be so wasteful of glorious chances, Kipper should have had a cushion to work with.

Go away. If all you're going to do is b****, seriously just don't post.

What the hell are you talking about? The puck was in the Chicago zone for almost the entire third period and OT as well. What exactly are the "leaders" supposed to do aside from what they did?

Hossa scored with 2 seconds left, he's one of the best players in the league, it happens.

They DOMINATED these guys overall, the leadership was clearly evident all night long.

They won't make the playoffs, not because they're a bad team, but because the hole they've dug themselves to start the year will be too deep to climb out of in a shortened year.

Doesn't mean you can't be happy with the way they played tonight. That was very entertaining.

If you're not paying attention to CBC right now, you need to go rewind it and listen to the last 4-5 minutes of Scott Oake. It's almost like a Saturday Night Live skit at this point.
