Yeah Portland has a lot of things going for it.

1. NHL ready arena
2. good size with 2.26 M people
3. no competing big league baseball or NFL team as does Seattle
4. hockey history

^ Baltimore is covered as part of the Greater Washington DC area (I don't think anyone thinks the area could support two teams)

And Cincinatti is 100 miles from Columbus (Cleveland is under 150)

Seattle, and then Portland, stand out pretty clearly on that list.

Having said that, the greater Phoenix area is almost 5 million, so...

Edit: obviously this list was done before Atlanta lost their team

Would love to see a team in Portland and a team in Seattle.

Portland Coyotes/Jets/Nike's

Then add Seattle by expansion with 2nd Toronto team. Move what ever team is struggling next to Quebec... Florida?

The Portland Rosebuds

A deal was reached where the players of the Rosebuds were sold for $100,000 to form the new Chicago Black Hawks expansion franchise.[1]

If Bill Gallacher can find the investors to put together $170 million for a hockey team, why would he NOT want to put it in a city he's more familiar with like Portland?

Move Phoenix to Seattle, Florida to Quebec, TB to Portland. Root out those teams that are dragging the NHL down and move the Southern teams back to more traditional hockey markets.

Well no, it actually is that simple:

Pretty well exactly what I said. And you can't say "the choice for the Glendale council has always been" anything, because this isn't the same council or mayor this whole gong-show started with.

You should probably educate yourself before speaking.

Yes, I can say "the choice for the Glendale council has always been" becaue electing a new council does not change the fact that the city is still on the hook for debt and management of the arena. They can certainly refuse to subsidize the team, but that will result in them subsidizing an empty arena. They're screwed either way.

The old council was betting that Jamison could bring back enough revenue to make the subsidy worth it. You obviously don't think so, and I was skeptical myself. But don't delude yourself in thinking that all of Glendale's problems magically go away if they simply refuse to play ball.

Glendale is going to be paying for the misakes of the council that built those facilities for decades. Other than the Big Owe, there probably aren't too many bigger albatrosses around.

Well, at least your xenophobia is more overt following that edit, but I remain at a loss as to why you intend to relocate a team drawing over 19,000 fans per game.

Lol. Initially I didn't realize they sold out that well, and I'm old school when it comes to where I personally think teams should or shouldn't be located at, runs in the family. If I had my way half the league would be in Canada and half in the US.

If you were really old school you would never want more than 1/3rd of the teams in Canada and Canada has never been higher since. We bring back Quebec and a 2nd gta team we are done. There just arent any other markets that can draw enough to get to the cap floor.

Hearing that a very strong investor group from KC is very much in the running to get the Phoenix franchise and move it to KC. That have the venue.

That's good, it's the first I've heard of a Kansas group wanting a team. They should have a strong bid considering they would be ready to roll.

Old school in the sense that I think hockey belongs in Canada, Obviously there's not enough markets in Canada though.

I think another team in Hamilton would also work. That would bring us up to ten teams which is exactly 1/3 of the NHL.
