The Flames should've won that game. They were the better team. Kipper was horrible and let in weak goals. That's why they lost. Kipper isn't perfect. He will have off nights.
Everyone needs to stop freaking out and look at the fundamentals.
- Way more creativity
- Forward depth
- Iginla skating hard
- Stajan playing a role
- Great UFA'S signings
Butler is done. He won't play ever again unless there are tons of injuries. Kipper will be a star on Saturday and the Flames will be their classic selves and will beat Chicago.

Flames will finish in 12th place or lower in the west this year. Nothing good to say about this group. A steaming pile...

Really tired of Iginla's habitual slow goal scoring starts to seasons. I really didn't believe he would be like this for a shortened season. Guess it doesn't matter if its 82 games or 48 he is not the goal scorer we need to start off a season.
Speaking of scoring goals that is what Cammy is primarily paid to do.
His play is really pissing me off. He is a step behind no matter where he is playing right now.
I don't know if the guy is pouting because maybe he feels he should be on the 1st line instead of Glencross, just a speculation.
If Cammy is not scoring he is not much help to his team.
The thing that is most irritating about Iginla and Cammy right now is they are not getting robbed by any goalies. They are shooting point blank right into their pads or right in the jersey. Point is the goalies are not even having to move.
If this was Jackman or another 4th liner getting scoring chances like this and not finishing i think nothing of it but these guys are paid to score goals period.
I wonder how long this will continue, its pretty disappointing and depressing.
Maybe Iggy needs to fight someone vs CHI.
Butler should be on waivers and then in the AHL.

Flames do play Chicago well at home, they rarely get blown out on Saturday night HNIC home games(a Washington loss comes to mind, but not much else, could be wrong though) and aren't coming off a 4 day break which I think hurt them a litttle last night. No excuse, but it didn't help, that's for sure. They'll have their feet moving better tomorrow.
It would not shock me if the Flames won tomorrow at all.

I thought that the forward group played rather well on the whole yesterday. Once the top players get their timing back, things will be a lot better, but they completely controlled the game each of the last two. Just having a little problem keeping the puck out.

No, it wouldn't for me either and that's what is frustrating about this team. You never really know what you're going to get.
Now with that being said, I have a feeling this years edition of the Flames gets killed by the Hawks. I guess we'll see.

Even the last placers blew out the hawks twice last week. The Flames will do so too. I'm going on the ledge here but i'm predicting a 3-2 blowout!

Jiri I can't believe such a post came from your keyboard. While the losses are extremely frustrating I agree the silver lining is that if the Flames are finally going to implode this is the perfect season to do it on a lot of levels. The disaster is in a shortened season meaining the pain will not be prolonged through 82 games and this is a really good draft to have a top pick.
I'm fully prepared to accept the short term pain for long term gain as a Flames fan. I'm tired of the current plight of mediocrity and it's clear the best this team can achieve this year will simply be more of the same from previous years.

Maybe but you have to be cautious how you perceive the lost points & near wins. Don't forget there are at least 10-14 teams every year that could say if only they had won a half dozen more shootouts, had fewer key injuries, & held onto a few more 3rd period leads, they would have been much more successful.
In a "Coulda, woulda, shoulda" world the Oilers & Leafs are perennial playoff teams, the Flames, Sharks, & Wild are celebrating recent Stanley Cup wins & the Canucks are multiple cup winners

Chicago blew them out pretty huge last year (or it may have been the year before). That was the first Flames games I left the Dome early. Me leaving the game early, has since turned into a regular occurrence.

Not to mention its a shortened season, so even more short term of a pain.
Blow it up

Not that it really matters but the Flames are 4-0 against Chicago at home over the last 2 years outscoring them 18-6.
As for the game itself... played decent but its the same old story as the last few years - no killer instinct. Supporting cast is playing well but when Iginla, Kipper and Cammalleri struggle this team is going to have issues.
Hopefully this roster makes a move up or down in the standings so we have a definitive path going forward and can act accordingly at the deadline.

Flames beat them 5-2 and 3-1 at home last year. The year prior, Calgary won 7-2 and 3-1 at home as well.
The 7-1 Hawks win in Calgary was the season prior, nearly three years ago.
Flames have won 4 straight at home to Chicago, they play them well at home.

I don't know why the leaders on this team, specifically, the forwards, think that it's all offence or all defence. You can play a two way game and not sacrifice your offense at all.
All the wingers have to do in the defensive zone is position themselves BETWEEN their defenceman with the puck and the opposing forechecker providing an option to the defenceman to get the puck out.
It's taken these forwards years to figure this out and they still haven't. They still constantly fly the zone early and leave the defencemen with no options but to turn the puck over.
They are either extremely stubborn or extremely stupid. I'm leaning towards stupid.
The key to playing offense is not beating your opposition to the other end, it's outmanning them when you are there. That means the key to offensive pressure is activating the defenceman in the attack. The Flames have the personnel to do this, but all they need is to understand that you have to get the puck out of your zone first before you attack.
It's not a race to the other end dummies! You don't need a head start. You need to attack with numbers.
I'm so sick and tired of watching this team get hemmed in its own zone because the forwards are not providing support. It's the same old culprits every single year and their "leadership" is only going to ruin the next generation of forwards who come in. The young ones will think its okay to fly the zone early because the veterans do it.

Unfortunately, this has been a bad habit for the Flames the past ~4 years... offensive system or defensive system. Really really bad habit, and frustrating to see.

really if the team had a better record it wouldnt be a big deal, bad tending and a couple bad breaks where why they lost. Problem is they can't afford it
although you win against chi-town and it doesn't look so bad.
2-3 or 1-4

The Oilers became the second team ever to draft three 1st overalls in a row. We aren't going to match that in one season no matter how bad we are. The Oilers also were forced to play their #1 picks as soon as possible. They are burning years on those ELCs with absolutely nothing to show for it. Let's not follow their lead.

Glencross played one of his worst games in recent memory...probably from the long break. He seemed to be doing everything wrong throughout the game.

Question to Flames fans: how long before bitterness sets in and you stop watching games, and instead watch Oilers and Canucks games so you can cheer for their opponents? Or has that already started...
