The only thing the general public would conclude, optically speaking, looking at Phoenix and Atlanta is that ####ing duh, hockey doesn't work in those markets. Which I'm sure everyone could have told you 15 years ago.

But they'd know about Atlanta?

Why would they know, or care, about Atlanta? That problem franchise sure wasn't the circus show Phoenix is. If anything, there was even less coverage nationally in the Atlanta situation.

Jamison still trying to salvage Coyotes deal with deadline hours away

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sport...rticle8061499/

In the meantime, a source said the NHL has an agreement with Glendale to manage Jobing.com Arena for $1-million per month for the rest of the season. Weiers said there is a deal with the NHL which can be transferred to a new owner but he refused to confirm the amount.

As a result, the sale is once again in limbo with the NHL faced with paying another season of losses for the team. What makes this worse for the NHL is it has no deal with Glendale to collect another $25-million payment. That agreement expired at the end of last season and the NHL had hoped to sell the team to Jamison by the start of this season.

By now, the league’s cost for the Coyotes are well north of $200-million. The league bought the Coyotes out of bankruptcy in October of 2009 for $128-million.

The two big problems for any prospective buyer is NHL commissioner Gary Bettman will not budge on his demand of $170-million for the team because he needs to recoup as much of the league’s money as possible, and Glendale council is no longer willing to hand over hundreds of millions of dollars in management fees as part of the lease.

LeBlanc said without a similar lease to the one Jamison negotiated no buyer can make the Coyotes sale work given the team’s annual losses.

I'm not saying Jamison has. I was merely speculating as what he would have to say such that it could rise to the level where Doan could sue Jamison in the way landshark suggested.

Who said they had privy knowledge, I said they were blinded by being to close to the situation and thus were shocked. It's like watching a friend in love, where everyone but the one being played, sees he's being played.

and you didn't need to be involved with the financing to see that it was on thin ice.

1. The whole deal didn't add up as even with help from Glendale the team was still losing money.

2. Time kept passing but Jamison couldn't close the deal even with extensions. He obviously didn't the money.

3. Even if he raised the purchase price, he still had to cover future losses. Would you put your money into such a deal?

Maybe Glendale should have set the deadline on a Monday and not a Thursday. Duh.

The best part of whenever this finally resolves will be the demise of the ######ed Monday jokes.

You are aware that this whole discussion started with you comparing this situation to Atlanta, correct?

I think the best thing, is that whatever happens now, Joyce Clark's name can't be attached to it anymore. Her legacy is over.

Could be Jamison's ego is the only thing that prevented the sweet deal.

http://www.azcentral.com/community/g...ml?sf9143527=1

Daly, in a radio interview on Hockey Night in Canada, maintained his commitment to Glendale, but acknowledged other cities could come into play.

“We’re closer to executing an alternative (plan) right now than we were five months ago,” he said.

City Councilman Gary Sherwood told The Republic that he understood Jamison and NHL officials discussed several options to assemble an ownership group during just the past two weeks.

During that time, a major new investor emerged, but the new investor demanded a controlling interest, which Jamison was reluctant to cede. Jamison instead tried to press on with a larger collection of smaller investors, but the group failed to jell before the city’s deadline.

Sherwood said Jamison and NHL officials kept in contact with City Attorney Craig Tindall during that period.

The councilman declined to identify the deep-pocketed investor, but said he expects the investor to move forward without Jamison in a separate attempt to buy the team.

“There is a suitor that’s been vetted through the National Hockey League, that’s been OK’d by the National Hockey League, that has money,” Sherwood said.

Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers is expected to address the media after a scheduled appearance at 11:30.

Expect a statement from the NHL regarding the #Coyotes sale around 10 am. AZ time. After that Glendale and the club will have statements.

I wouldn't really characterize that as an ego thing, plenty of business reasons why you wouldn't want to close a deal without a controlling interest.

The first real admittance by the league that their relocation plan is already in motion.

The loss of the $25 million subsidy was always going to mark the end of the NHL's ownership in Phoenix. Discounting the possibility of a successful hail mary by this alternate investor without a sweetheart lease, expect the relocation to be announced a couple days after the Stanley Cup is handed out.
