Apparently Communications is one of the least competitive degrees. Or they have to admit that they are going to grad school to become employable, girlfriend did an undergrad is Sociology and is now in a grad program that has good hire rates at decent salaries.

I have to say that if the invocation of your national pride requires the good performance of perfect strangers in a practically meaningless sporting competition then I suspect that you don't really have a good grasp at all on what is good about being a Canadian.

In any event, this leads nicely to another of my likely unpopular opinions. Nationalism is a wasted "virtue" and "national pride" is stupid.

I think that any benefit of the Vancouver Olympics was likely restricted to the residents of the greater Vancouver area and British Columbia to a significantly lesser extent. On this point it is a matter weighed against the cost, which was enormous.

I thought those Olympics ended up breaking even?

I agree the main benefits were for local residents though.

Don't read if you're not a fan of Hip Hop:

Canadian Hip Hop is by far the most creative form of Hip Hop. The lyrics are intricate and well thought out and the stories are in depth.

No disrespect to American Hip Hop, I recognize it as the creator, but Canadian rappers like Shad and D-Sisive have evolved it and own it right now.

I guess it depends on what you consider a benefit. I had a lot of fun during the Olympics despite being on the opposite coast and in the US, and working 16-18 hour days for pretty much the duration. Being catch highlights like Montgomery slamming that beer was great, and it somehow did connect me to Canada and being Canadian. Sneaking away from the office for 5 hours on that final Sunday afternoon to watch the gold medal game may have been the most fun I've ever had.

Kind of depends. If a sociology, political science, or *insert any other social science* took a lot of quantitative methodology with a focus on statistical survey research, they will easily find themselves more employable than your standard "business student (outside of finance and accounting)."

It doesn't even have to do with math skills, but more with the fact that a lot of students specifically enter into the arts because they want to escape the analytical reasoning required by the hard sciences. That said, it's not too difficult for motivated arts students to capture a pretty unique employment opportunity without going to grad school.

I agree to an extent, but I still maintain that the massive increase in specialisation produces a more global sensation of knowing more than one in actual fact does. Again, I don't have any evidence for this, but it is my suspicion that specialisation contributes significantly to this phenomenon.

I didn't mean to imply that. My point was that relative to the existing collection of universal knowledge, people's grasp of practically everything is much shallower than it was prior to the knowledge explosion. It is not that we know less—it is rather that we know a much smaller fraction of the whole because the whole continues to expand so dramatically.

Actually I like some of the work I have been exposed too and I hate some of the work I've been exposed too (I enjoyed the challanges at my last job on the logistical side of SCM, although it did get overwhelming at times). I'm sure thats the case with most fields out there.

It's more so that I think I would have the right type of drive to be successful in the business side of a trade. I would have to get over my massive ineptness when it comes to being "handy" though...

I don't think the government needs to pay money to the children or grandchildren of those affected in WW2 or that the first nations should get special treatment...I mean they lost since when do losers get anything?

Babies disgust me, I find them uncomfortable to hold, smell, make messes and they aren't cute and I hate how adults feel the need to use baby talk and coo and blubber every time they see one.

They were obliterated! Unjustly obliterated culturally, socially, spiritually, physically, and mentally.

You're right, they lost big time. They should be given special privileges and breaks in my opinion. It's sick what happened to them and they deserve any break they can get.

Right with you on the babies thing. I especially love getting unsolicited photos sent to me. Or when people act as if everyone around them should tolerate the poo smell. If the diaper is dirty, clean in NOW damn you.

And don't even get me started about how parents, especially "new" parents, get preferential treatment in the work place by being able to slough work off, "work" from home, leave early, arrive late, and take days off without notice.

The teacher who posted/tweeted/texted those provocative pics of her for students to see should be fired.

This is probably a really unpopular opinion.
