You don't need to win the lottery to do that, and get by fairly well. I'm sure the city would like to have that.
I guess the buying part needs the lottery. You could always rent.

"Canada is superior rah rah eh" is largely a myth.
Taking OECD countries into account, there's very little variance in quality of life, if you manage to be in the middle class.

While I enjoy most of Tom Cochrane, Life Is A Highway is an awful song.
By the time they are finished, Radiohead will go down as the greatest band of all time, and will be held in higher regard than The Beatles.
Black liquorice is better than Red.
In 50 years no one will know who Steve Jobs is and Bill Gates will be regarded as the hero of our time.

I think it is superior to most places in the world, but that is mainly because most places are crapholes. A large portion of Africa and Asia are just off the wall terrible when it comes to everything from disease, crime, safety, freedom, wealth, etc.. Latin America is hit and miss.
If we are just comparing Canada to other wealthy developed countries, then I agree that the differences are minor for the most part.
Having said that and keeping up with the spirit of the thread;
Europe >> North America

I think clearcutting of forests in the foothills of Alberta, should be banned, and replaced with selective logging, leaving at least 50% of the forest intact.

We have to log the trees before nature takes them first.

That's the excuse the forest companies use...it will all burn down anyway, so let's just rape the land.
Before selective logging was replaced by clearcutting, back in the 60's, you could go back in every 25 or so years and do more logging. It reduced the fire hazard, and was a much more sustainable operation. Mind you the forest companies are listening to some extent, and are starting to do a combination of clearcutting and selective logging in the cutblocks.

I don't have any problems with people eating dog meat. In fact, I would like to try it someday if I get a chance to. I see don't see any difference between a dog vs. a cow, pig, or chicken.

I'd rather listen to country music than Abba, and I hate country music!

I prefer herbivores to carnivores. Mind you I have eaten a fair amount of crow.

There are a lot of really bad teachers at all levels of the education system. In general, teachers are overly obsessed with things like spelling and format, which among other things becomes remedied best through practice. The majority of teachers are either incapable or choose not to teach a curriculum that encourages free thinking. They'd rather reward students for memorization, spelling, and regurgitating their own small opinions.

My brother is an example. Can do complex fractions in his head before most of us can punch the first number into a calculator, but always did poorly in math class because he can't show his work the way the teacher wants.

I think people should have to go through an interview/testing process to procreate.
