At this point Bargnani and Pau Gasol have the two lowest trade values in the league, so trading Bargs may be pretty difficult without accepting some salary back, or having to give up more just to dump him.

Depends when AB comes back if there is even enough time to showcase him in time for a deadline deal. Knowing the Raptors he probably comes back for one game and is reinjured. During the same game the old hammy does Calderon in and they are stuck with them.
Today's addtion to the Gay trade is Memphis wants a pick as well. There is a search on for a third team as they don't want Jose either. So Memphis or Toronto has to find a team that wants Jose and is willing to give up something(either a cheap SF or a 1st round pick).
Or the Raps would have to throw in a 2015 or later pick as they can't deal two 1st's in a row away. BC will put this franchise right under the ground if they allow him to try and save his butt.

Really starting to sound like this is going to happen. ESPN reporting that both teams are presenting a framework to ownership now.
The big thing that Gay brings is consistency. Double-digits scoring every single night. That's a huge benefit over Casey spending the first half of every game trying to figure out who's going to give him offense.
Edit: now reporting that Memphis has agreed in principle. Sounds like haddidi rather than Arthur in the return.

TSN says a done deal
http://www.tsn.ca/nba/story/?id=414844
the Raptors and Memphis Grizzlies have an agreement in principle that would send Gay to Toronto along with centre Hamed Haddadi in exchange for Jose Calderon and Ed Davis.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports is also reporting that the Grizzlies are looking to route Calderon to a third team as part of the deal.
Detroit, Boston and Dallas appear to be the front-runners to land Calderon.

Seems like a deal to ensure the Raptors stay 7th-11th the next 4-5 years may be enough to save Colangelo's job with the idiots running the team while ensuring the team never gets enough talent to actually compete.
Can't wait to see Gay and Derozan fight to see who can be a bigger ballhog while taking increasingly selfish shots to pump up their own stats. At least they are crappy rebounders and awful defenders as well.

Hate this trade, not a Rudy Gay fan at all.
FFS a playoff team just got rid of their highest scorer...that right there should tell you enough about how valuable they think Rudy Gay really is to that team.

This Haddadi guy - joe schmoe, whatever. As for the rest of the deal, I like it, but I don't like the team at the current state. I want to see what Bryan can do with a Bargnani deal. That will really change the look of the franchise. I'm also a little concerned how Lowry's going to handle the full-time duties, because he's more of a take it to the basket player than ball distributer than Calderon, so as it stands, we could very well be like the Lakers - not enough passing and playmaking, but more chucking. They have to have followup rebounding as well, so I'll have to wait and see what Colangelo does once Bargnani's back.

Only way I see Gay fitting on the Raptors is pushing DeRozan to a 6th man role and putting a better defensive presence in the backcourt. As it has been stated by every poster above - those are two scorers who need the ball, and I don't see that being the right balance.
Davis has been great this year, made a real jump - this is Colangelo selling high. In the summer, Davis was seen as tradeable, with the depth the Raptors have up front. I think its a move made to shake the roster up, and probably won't be the last move made.
Also - they have to give something that is cheap and effective, hence Davis. They took Ross off the table.

I like the fact that this move happened early in the trading season. It leaves a lot of time for Raptors to evaluate who fits around Gay and who they can move. Like I said earlier, I think this team needs a big-man who can catch and pass the ball in the post. DeRozan probably can keep his job if he continues to pass like he has the last 4 or 5 games.
And totally agree on Colangelo selling high. It's something that he's never done in his time with Toronto.

They can still make more moves. DD could hit the road to make room for Ross and AB should be down the road as well. I would have rather tanked for Wiggins but you knew BC would make moves to save his job. At least Ross is still around.

That's good enough for me.
Davis types are dime a dozen and I'm a fan of him. Just hope Gay doesn't pout and whine like our previous 'star player' acquisitions did.
I'll just be damn happy to see this team play competitive basketball as in 7th-8th seed for the next few years.

Our goal should be to become the best, not squeek into playoffs every year.

The 7-8 spot isn't competitive basketball. It is barely .500 crap ball that allows you to be a filler for the playoffs because they need 8 teams.
That should be the worse case scenario for Raptor fans.

Goddamn it Bryan. He really didn't need to make a trade to elevate them into losing to the Heat in the 1st round. But with Rondo out he saw his chance to sneak into the playoffs and possibly save his job, so he went for it. I guess points for not giving up a ton (though I don't like Davis going, and feel awful for Calderon and hope Detroit flips him again to someone who can use him).

Well that's just plain unrealistic for the Raptors as proven in their history. We'll never be a top seed here.

Shocking that the Raptors and Announcers are whining again about reffing at the end of the game.
Nice of them to ignore Derozan grabbing Korver with about 10 seconds left so they could even get the ball, but it allows them to blame the loss on the ref rather than the crap talent on the team and pretend the refs are the issue with this team.

It's very unrealistic to believe the Raptors will ever win the championship. Unless they somehow land a generational talent, but MLSE seems content with Colangelo and his pride will never allow a full scorch rebuild.

Lowry-Derozan-Gay-Bargs-Jonas
To many shoot first guys in that line-up. Weak defense as well. Don't see it working that well

Bargs should get amnestied, but you can never put it past Colangelo. I think Johnson is adequate for filling in Davis's role for now.
