Important issues for me:
1) architecture: I want something new, modern, and bold, like Calgary at its best
2) more washrooms and better concessions (which will be a given)
3) central and accessible
4) have rail access right into the building (or at least coonnecting structure)
5) my seats are at least as good as now
6) bar service to my seat

Ken King has said that they could have double the number of suites, and still have a waiting list. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean that the new building will have twice as many suites as the Saddledome, but it will almost certainly have more.
I wouldn't be surprised for it to be similar to Scotiabank Place or Bell Centre, where they have one level of suites, then a level of Club Seats, then another level of suites.

Considering the Flames own the Stampeders I personally would be in favour of a 30,000 seat multisport complex with a retractable roof that can house hockey, football, soccer, and baseball. The only reason the Cannons couldn't survive in Calgary was the terrible spring weather and I feel a building of this type would be easily utilized all year with sports and concerts.

I assume you're talking about something where the rink and field would be in separate parts of a much larger building?

With the Roughnecks, Stamps, Hitmen and in the future MLS, I would would like to see a massive multi-sport entertainment complex.

The most important thing in the new stadium is that they bring back Wendy's on the concourse so I can be properly stoked on grease and sugar while I am booing Bouwmeister. Also, there should be large men in riot gear smushing the skulls of anyone who comes to the game in a tie.
Oh yah, and maybe they could have the whole stadium on giant treads so it could rumble around the city, crushing our enemies beneath its mighty bulk. Think of the prestige associated with the first fully mobile, nuclear-powered arena/AFV! The Russians will be so jealous.

Well NASA has that big shuttle moving thingy that they aren't using anymore. I'm sure we could get that cheap and then just build an arena on top of it.

Nope. There could be smaller arena attached for minor hockey, curling, smaller concerts but there's no reason the main building can't house hockey, football, soccer, and baseball. Block off the upper bowl for hockey with the advantage of utilizing up to 25,000 for playoffs (playoffs???) or even 30,000 for a winter classic with the roof open. 30,000 for football with luxury suites which is a way the Stamps can make more money rather than trying to get 30,000+ in McMahon. Have the lower bowl able to shift for baseball to bring AAA baseball back and soccer field if the Flames want to get into MLS. IMO this makes a lot of sense for the Flames ownership over just another arena. Calgary needs a retractable dome because our weather is too cold for spring/fall outdoor spectator sports.

I enjoyed the Heritage Classic as much as the next guy, but if I had to watch a flames game from that far away every time, there's no way I would go.
Not sure how you would be able to fix that problem without the place being one giant transformer.

Multi purpose stadia just aren't being built anymore, and there is a reason why. The compromises made to work for different sports with different sized fields makes the experience less enjoyable.
No one has ever tried making a multipurpose hockey/football stadium, also for good reason, a hockey rink is tiny compared to a football field. For Hockey, all the seats are so far back, that really, there are no good seats to be had. Think - Heritage Classic seating every game. No one would go to the games.
Engineering wise, it might be possible to have stands that move around, and adapt to both a football field and a hockey rink. However, the end result would either be quite awkward, or extremely expensive (likely more money than just building seperate buildings), and almost certainly both.

I'm sorry, but this is possibly the worst idea I've ever heard. It would cost an exorbitant amount and guarantee that it would be crappy for a whole range of sports.

I think recent trends in America have shown that teams/owners are very weary to shifting configurations for different playing fields. Reason being the seatings can suck for the non primary configuration (or all of them). The most common being football and baseball, have owners that are in those current setups move into new faculties that's purely intended for one sport only. I don't think Flames ownership would want to do something like that. And with NHL being the only major league here, doesn't make sense for them economically since it would cost A LOT to do that I figure.
Flames are going to make an arena that can be used for hockey, basketball, lacrosse, and conventions/concerts. And they will renovate McMahon for football and soccer I'd imagine.

Not buying that at all and my idea actually makes a lot of sense in terms of revenue sources out of a single facility. I don't buy that closing the upper deck would be crappy for hockey if it was designed properly and it would be perfect for the Stampeders. We aren't talking about a cavernous 60+ plus stadium like Skydome.

It's not the closing the upper deck part that people are worried about here, it's how in the world you get quality seating right up to the glass for an arena, while still being able to have enough floor space to house a CFL sized field.
