In what world is this true?
Being sober 95% of the time and drunk 5% is so much better than being sober 100% of the time.

I have maybe a 6 pack every 10 days or so. Every other Thursday I have 2-3 beers jamming with some friends, and mix in a bottle of wine every other week, plus glasses of wine maybe 3 times a week at work (I work for a wine club)

I actually don't drink beer too often. If I meet current/former co-workers for a drink after work, I usually have two or three. That happens about twice a month. Maybe once more each month I might have one or two.
I do consume wine & spirits much more frequently, but never to excess. I'd guess that I have alcohol about five days of the week. When I do, it is about two drinks. Maybe about once a year, I have enough that I feel slightly affected. (i.e. probably just over the legal limit to drive.) I can't remember the last time I was clearly drunk. It was probably about ten years ago.
I just finished up a Scotch & soda. I probably poured about three ounces, which would be considered two drinks. Yesterday, I had half a bottle of wine with supper (which would be 2.5 drinks).
For the amount that you are drinking, there wouldn't be too much to worry about other than the caloric intake. Your weekend drinking is probably working your liver a bit. You are over the recommended maximum for Canada (2 drinks per day - 12 oz of beer is considered one drink) You may find this site interesting: low risk drinking guidelines. In particular, I would recommend you go through this survey.

This doesn't seem too far from normal (seems your on the low end of the spectrum of this thread). Does your wife have an issue aside from the drinking itself? Are you an ass when you get a bit of a buzz? Tight budget?

Probably have a beer once every couple weeks. Drink red wine far more often, almost daily. But your amount isn't particularly worrying. 1 pint a day is pretty tame.
I had a roommate in university that would wake up and crack a beer. I think he drank 20 one day, no special occasion, nobody else drinking.
If I had an iron stomach I'd probably drink a lot more heavily. But any amount more than a couple drinks will almost always lead to a bad hangover. Serious drinking will leave me needing a full day of recovery. My body just thinks the stuff is poison. And that is why some of us smoke...

It's not really the amount, but it just becomes a habit and a lifestyle I don't like.

is the OP drinking 1 pint a night in his house? or is he stopping at Moe's tavern on the way to home every night for a pint.
I could see my wife having a problem with me stopping at my local pub every night instead of going home, but not so much with cracking a bottle later in the evening if we were just watching a show.
but i generally don't drink very casually, when I drink, I drink with purpose... the idea of 1 every night seems wasteful, OP should just save his 9 beers a week all for one night. You get better results that way.

A light buzz is merely a small bonus when I drink; I primarily do so for the flavour of whatever's to be had at the moment. I like red wine with dinner, and throughout the week I'm generally having one of: a dram of scotch, or 2-3 beer.
The spectrum of different drinkers is far too wide to be able to pass judgement or qualify what's "over the line". As others have mentioned, if someone has three beer in a night and suddenly becomes a loser toward their family/friends, three's obviously too much. I always have different varieties of scotch/beer at home at any given time, because I love to try out and discover the many different varieties. However, I very rarely get anywhere close to "drunk", as I'm not too keen on the after-effects the following day, nor do I like losing total control over my faculties, ya know?
And with that...

Unfortunately pot gives me horrible panic attacks so I pretty much have to live like a priest from now on unless I decide to get into crack or something.

Seems like there's a few drinkers here. Their almost may need to be a new thread of "apparently one night I did this". I'm sure we will get a few stories. I just don't wanna start it, as I don't know which stories to pick.

I found going to the gym mon-fri basically cut out 95% of any beers I would have during the week.
On weekends I typically pick one night to go all out with friends and the other more casual...all depends on the work schedule really.

Beer only makes sense to me after hockey. It's a thirst quencher and really soothes the burning lungs after a good skate.
A beer or two with wings hits the spot.
beer tastes even better with Chinese food. Or on a hot summers day after working outside.
Aside from that I just don't see the point in drinking them regularly.
I've switched over to red wine.

^ Really? I thought the role of alcohol in compounding the effects of dehydration were a well-established scientific premise.

My drinking habits almost mirror yours exactly and my doctor says that amount is ideal consumption for your health.

i'd probably drink more (beer here and there on weeknights) if it wasn't for working out early mornings.
I used to be a spirit drinker in my 20s, now in my brief stint in the 30s (am 31) i find that i enjoy beer so much more (that and scotch i suppose). Might have to do with the fact that i get drunk so much easier off the hard stuff now.

I don't like getting drunk at all, so I prefer to limit myself to one or two most of the time.
