When a joke is no longer a joke...
So we have some friends that often tease and lightly torment their kids. Things like wrapping up a decidedly little girls toy for their (at the time) 9 year old son at Christmas. then expressing surprise that it wasn't what he asked for...then bringing out the real gift.
Yesterday they may have gone too far and we're trying to decide if they've crossed the line. The facebook post:
We convinced the boy (age 11) that we decided to leave him and his sister (6) home while we went shopping in st. Louis (they left to do some shopping in town I believe...regardless they did leave). I told him not to eat the cherry danish his dad left because they were full of bugs that could make them very sick. He confessed they had already ate them and gave one to the neighbor girl. They were on their way to (my) house to get a ride to the emergency room when we pulled in.
Now I'm not saying it was necessarily intentional abuse. Also, to give some background we have twice had to call an ambulance for our daughter and that type of stress/worry is nothing I'd wish on my worst enemy so my view could very much be biased. It just seems like this went beyond ribbing and a joke.
Thoughts?

the kids will probably grow up to be liars and bullies themselves, or have a huge problem with fear.

Apologies, but I'm having trouble following what exactly is going on in that "Facebook Post".

I understood it and agree with what you were saying. I can't believe that parents would air that kind of stuff about their children for all to see.

I could see the gift thing being a little amusing, but it would get tiring if done all the time. Sounds like these parents should be the victim of some similar joke - almost like hey little Johnny is at the hospital.....

Kind of where my thought process was going. Every time they post their crappy 'parenting' on FB, their friends should give it right back to them. Kids can't do #### all about it, not yet anyway.

What kind of psychopathic thought process involves telling some, albeit crappy, parents that their child is in the hospital?

Not in the hospital. I skimmed. But something along the same line as the present ####, you know? Like if they expressed a desire for an iPad. Get an empty iPad box, put in a Bazinga shirt and wrap and give it to them.

They're psycho parents. They make their kids feel shiddy at Christmas by making them think they got them lousy presents and then scare the crap out of them(not the "harmless prank" kind of scared...but "we better get to the hospital" scared) at 6 and 11 years old! They would absolutely deserve it.
