Then consider the NRA statement... the only thing that stops a bad person with a gun, is a good person with a gun.
Should the original statement be changed to... bad people and good people with guns kill people with guns or people with guns kill people,

How about the statements just goes away?
I've never heard one person ever state knives don't kill people, people kill people. The same goes for any assault weapon, beit a hammer, baseball bat, nail gun, wine bottle, etc...

I've been kind of on the fence with gun control laws, as I really don't know how much good they'll do. I don't care for guns, but in the grand scheme of things any laws are not going to save a significant amount of lives... But, my girlfriend's Kroger just had a guy bring in an AR-15 fully loaded to show off his second amendment rights and apparently it is fully legal to do so. I can't fathom how anyone can suggest this should be legal, and was kind of shocked to find out there is no law against bringing your loaded assault rifle wherever you like.

I've got a Marlin 880S for the .22 and used to have a Tikka T3 Lite .270. Great gun, but kicked like a donkey. Looking to possibly get into hunting with some buddies....22's are fun, but looking for the long range whack and a more versatile rifle.
Thinking about a Remington 870 12ga pump and a Tikka T3 Varmint .223 or the Remington 700 .308 since its much more versatile....any other opinions/recommendations??

What are you going to be using the shotgun for?
Any reason you sepcifically want a pump?

For a decent pump shot gun I would get a Remington 870, 870 Express or Wingmaster. I have 3 of them and for the different price points they are great guns for ducks partridge and pheasants. If you have money to burn and want a good autoloader pick up a Benelli Nova or Supernova. If you want a super fast autoloader pick up a Beretta Extrema series. If you are more into pheasants or partridge and want to shoot with the old guys and have money burning a hole in your pocket a Browning Citori Over Under would be the way to go.

anyone here ever seen a 4 gauge?
they are often mounted to the front of boats to flock shoot. I have a very strong suspicion they were in Canada in the early 1900s past WWI, but I've never seen one. I would LOVE to own one, provided I could get some history behind it.

If your looking for a cheap, reliable, entry level shotgun, take a look at the Mossberg lineup. They make quality shotguns for very low prices. They can be quite heavy though. If budget isn't to much of a concern, look for a quality side by side or over under. For duck hunting you are only allowed two shells loaded into the magazine so a pump shotgun won't add any value. Skeet shooting you really only have time to get two shots off as well. For either sport, a light shotgun is handy.

You're allowed 3 rounds, so nothing wrong with using a pump or semi-auto.

Yes, 3 total. One in the chamber but only two allowed in the magazine. I believe if you have a pump shotgun (or semi auto) while duck hunting, you must insert a tube into the magazine that prevents more than 2 from being loaded into it.
Sorry, should have been more clear about that part.

Yeah, but that still means you get 1 more shot than with an over under.
That being said, for some things (pheasant for example) I much prefer my over under to my pump, or even my semi.

Totally agree.
Is your over under quite a bit lighter than your pump? How does the semi compare?
After a day at the range shooting skeets with my g/f's Uncle whom had an over under, he handed it to me to try out. I almost flung it up in the air it was so light compared to the one I was using.

That person is an idiot, yeah it's legal and within his rights but with the current political atmosphere that was the dumbest thing he could of done. (btw the AR15 isn't an "assault rifle")

My over under is lighter than my pump, but there are two big reasons, the first is that my over under is a 20 gauge, and the second is that my pump has a pretty long barrel on it.
I use the pump for geese, and my over under for pheasant.
My semi is a good all around gun that I used to use for evertying, but now I pretty much just use it for ducks.
My basic reasoing is as follows:
Pheasant (20g over under): 20 is more than enough, it's nice to have a light gun that I can get up quickly and if it takes me more than 2 shots, that third one isn't likely to help me much anyway
Geese (12g pump): They're big and slow, so I use a big slow gun
Ducks (12g semi): Problem: ducks are tiny and fast. Solution: Throw lead at the problem as quicly and plentifully as you can

Take a look at the mossberg MVP, it's a bolt action varmint rifle that takes ar mags and shoots both 5.56 NATO and .223 rem rounds. Pretty dang accurate. They also have a .204 barrel which is a flatter shooting round and shoots about 1k feet per second faster than the .223.
It's a great prairie dog slayer.
Here is a 100 yards 10 rounds

No specific reason on the pump...when we went to Silver Willow it's all my buddies had I think (may have been 1 o/u). I'm not sold on any style (o/u, s/s, pump) so I'm open to ideas and experiences of everyone. The purpose would be clay / target shooting and duck/pheasant hunting.
