I certainly hope you'd be able to run it.
If you can't, Maxis has made a design flaw.

^ You are slightly ahead of the recommended specs, and way ahead of the required, so the game should run smoothly for you.

You probably won't be able to run it on high (unfortunately), but somewhere between medium and high is my guess. It'll still look good.

Both of these cards are positioned in the middle between the Minimum system requirements and the Recommended system requirements.
In both cases they should be able to run the game on medium settings.

Found a web app that will tell you if you can run Simcity based on your video card/cpu and RAM.

I haven't played a pc game since Warcraft II....
Can't wait for this game, but only have a Mac at home (3 year old iMac). Is this game out of my computing reach??
I could use my work laptop (new Lenovo) but would prefer not to.

If I had to pick a game to waste my time in should it be Civ V or Sim V?

Well, not sure if anyone can really answer that since SimCity isn't out yet. That being said, Civ 5 was a bit of a disappointment in comparison with previous civs IMO. If SimCity lives up to the hype, I would recommend it. Although Civ 5 is still a good game.

As soon as I posted I realized it was kind of a dumb question at this point. I just recently got into computer games, with my last computer game being Sim Tower, so just trying to find something to play outside League of Legends but don't think I would have the time to play all three.
I need to buy a new computer regardless of which way I go so currently looking into that. Hate spending $700+ just to play a game but my current laptop and PC are at least 5 years old and from looking into if it can run either Civ 5 or Sim 5 it isn't even close.
Maybe I'll look into Sim 4 and Civ 4 and see which one I get into while I wait for ordered parts to arrive and computer is being put together.

I had to order a new computer as well. Mine was also 5 years old this past september. I ran Civ 5 on it really well until my video card died. I scrounged one up and it still runs Civ 5, but just on really low settings.
There's a huge difference between the system requirements between the two games. You could try it on your old machine to see if you get into it.

Seems I got an email with a beta key for this weekend. Since I won't really have time to play it, the key is up for grabs. If anyone is interested I'll pass it along to the first person who replies to this post in this thread.

You've spent too much time in Calgary. I'm probably going to have the same problem...it's just so logical.
