I have a small scratch on the stainless bezel of my Hublot already, so thanks for the suggestion Pylon.

Just make sure it is brushed... not polished. I don't want you to bugger up your watch!
For polished watches, I use my dremel, with a felt pad, and a little polishing compound and they come back amazing.

Yeah, it's a brushed finish... which is why I can't use my Cape Cod polishing cloth on it, it'll removing the brushing.

Yikes, I wouldn't take my chances on a Hublot.
Can't you get it polished up professionally? I know my friend just had a Breitling shined up or about $16. Seems worth it when you're talking watches over $1000.

Yeah, I should say, all of my watches Seiko's are worth around $5-800 at retail, and most of them I didn't pay much more than $300 online. If I was dealing with a big ticket watch I wouldn't be doing homemade repairs on a bezel, where the grain is circular. With bands, where it is linear, no problem, I would re-brush a Rolex, but I believe you have to use a special type of lathe polisher for bezels to keep the grain consistent.

You're probably right, it's the DIY-er in me trying to make stupid decisions.

Try these guys they seem to get pretty favourable reviews on watchuseek:
http://www.nywatchstore.com
Their prices are very good. I just ordered a couple G-shocks from them, but I threw this in the cart for the hell of it, and it seems to be the one I am anticipating the most : (It was only 30 bucks okay)

That reminds of this one Casio (I think it was a Casio) that had a universal remote control built into it. As a kid (and huge nerd), I would absolutely drool over the prospect of being able to control a television set from my wrist watch, gazing longingly at it in the Consumers Distributing catalogue (anyone remember them?) though my parents would never buy me one because they knew it would be a constant battle for control of the television.
And now...
http://www.ohgizmo.com/2011/01/13/tv...to-look-dorky/
Bit of a fail on the Tachymetre markings, but most people have no idea what those are for anyways.

I'm jealous of all the nice watches you guys get to wear. Unfortunately, my job usually causes watches to take a beating so I'm stuck to my two favorites that can seem to take it....

I'd say the worst part about my job (where watches are concerned) is that I am at a desk, so there's a solid chance that any bracelet watches are going to have scuffs on the clasp and/or bracelet sooner rather than later.
My PAM and Hublot escape this by having leather and rubber straps, respectively. The Planet Ocean and the Sea-Dweller, on the other hand. They're both brushed finish however, so I could use Pylon's technique on them without much issue. And neither of them worry me too much about wrecking the finish, my father's done this on his Omega SMP without any problems.

Same here. The Consumers catalogue was where I used to drool over crappy, digital watches too. When I got my first Casio Calculator in like 82 or 83, I felt like such a boss. Saved on my flyer route for a couple months, and the anticipation of going after school with my mom to fill out that order slip and take it to the counter was torture. And they actually had it in stock! So this one is strictly for nostalgia sakes. I think that thing was like 60 bucks back then. Then in the late 80's early 90's I was all about the Timex Ironmans, and Atlantis 100's.
You remember that "personal massager" that always made an annual appearance in that catalogue? lol

OT, but found a scanned copy of the catalogue in question:
http://www.cdarchive.ca/Consumers-1987-1988.pdf
First page is personal massagers...there's actually an item called "personal vibrator", so I don't think they were trying to disguise anything.

On the topic of geeky watches, does anyone have a watch that does atomic time signal synchronization? Does the feature work well and reliably?

Ha, looking through that catalog is pretty entertaining....I mean look at that York triple (TRIPLE!) cassette player.
There's are definitely a few things on there that I'd be all over... starting with some of those awesome race tracks. Man, I miss the olden times.

I have an Atomic Gshock, and an Atomic desk clock, and they are spot on to the millisecond with each other. The atomic time signal is a little weak here (they broadcast the signal from Colorado I believe) but it seems to sync up no problem every night. It is an awesome way to calibrate automatic watches. I have a couple of my Seiko autos down to +/- 2 seconds a day now, which is Rolex territory.

Got my watch from http://www.dutyfreeislandshop.com/Default.asp today. I ordered it January 19th, and it was in Calgary on Jan 29th.
They also wrote ("gift - $35 bracelet of movement") on the envelope which resulted in no additional brokerage/customs fees:
Watch came in a well padded envelope with the following:
And an up close pic that isn't very good (loses some of the detail of the watch):
So yeah I'm very impressed with duty free island. I was a little hesitant at first but I'd recommend them.
Anyways just wanted to show off my new baby, this is the first "good" watch I've ever owned and it's mostly because of this thread.
