Yea the difference is the mullets, sweat pants, raining down garbage on the ice and all of that over the correct call on the ice.

Nice try though.

Right now, I promise to purchase and wear the jersey of any NHL player who whips out a sharpie and signs the glass they jump into before or after they score.

Actually, that would be the best: signing the glass during the pre-game skate, and then scoring and jumping right into the spot where you signed. That would be the best NHL goal celebration ever. I would buy home and away if anyone did that.
This needs to happen.

What do you mean "nice try"? I was a season ticket holder for years. There's been **** thrown on the ice, swearing in the stands, lots of BS chants. We've had it all.

I'm not saying any of that is good, but I'd take that over what we have now, which is a stupidly dead atmosphere, where everyone just sits there quitely watching until the final buzzer.

If it was a Flame prospect doing the celebration I would be fine with it. But he is an Oiler. So shame shame shame.

The "nice try" was aimed at your being an apologist for Oiler fans and at the same time trying to put ours down. The fact you're supposedly a Flames fan just makes it that much worse.

I have season tickets as well and your insistence that we're "quietly watching until the final buzzer all the time" couldn't be move over stated or over dramatic.

Say what you will, I can't remember anything that crass in recent memory with the garbage, swearing and greasy looking people in the stands. Not to mention, you think Edmonton hasn't largely been a library in itself the last four seasons? I really like how you're talking this once instance of them having a melt down and trying to imply it's such an electric atmosphere there in comparison to the dome based off 2 minutes.

I loved it. Wish more of the Flames showed that kind of emotion. Or any emotion frankly.

I get being excited, but that was over the top. Not sure why fans are getting dragged into this.

Kid is going to be good, no doubt, but that was dumb.

For those saying they wish the Flames showed that passion, would you really want Sven skating past all the other teammates and falling to the ice like that on game 3 of the season?

Is my choice between this versus seeing him on the 4th line with Blake Comeau?

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Maybe you should read Kerry Fraser's take on it.

Sorry, wrong.

As has already been mentioned, there has been a change to the rules where the officials are encouraged to conference after such calls to ensure the correct call is made.

And it was.

I'm more upset at people saying "celly", instead of "celebration".

On a side note, I thought the GM Place crowd during the Flames/Cansucks game last week was especially pathetic. Sounded like a pre-season game.

"If, after any contact by a goalkeeper who is attempting to establish position in his goal crease, the attacking player does not immediately vacate his current position in the goal crease (i.e. give ground to the goalkeeper), and a goal is scored, the goal will be disallowed. In all such cases, whether or not a goal is scored, the attacking player will receive a minor penalty for goalkeeper interference."

Where was the 2 min to Gagner for goaltender interference?

Like I said, the refs did a horrible job last night.

Just because Yakupov's celebration doesn't fit nicely into your little tidy box of what a player should do when they score a highly emotional goal doesn't mean it was dumb.

The kid scored a big goal and was excited. Given the circumstances of the game, the fact that he had one called back in the first period, and the fact that one had just been called back prior to him scoring and the building was going nuts, I think it was fine. Of course, the media is looking to latch onto anything and everything, and are desperately looking for a reaction out of somebody so that they can blow it up.

In the post-game media availability, Horcoff said the kid loves to play hockey, he's got a youthful exuberance, and it was a product of the emotion of the moment. I think the fact that anyone needs to come to the kids defense in the first place is ridiculous. It's unfortunate that when someone acts in some way that doesn't fit our understanding of appropriate behavior we jump to labeling them as immature or whatever else.

He was fired up. I loved the raw emotion of the moment, if it happened when the Oilers were down 4-0 in a lifeless building, that's a completely different story. The reaction wasn't contrived, wasn't offensive, it felt natural and emotional. I didn't even view it as something to ever think about again until I came on here and saw the outrage.

Selfish? Dumb? Immature? Maybe Yakupov is all of those things. What 19 year old kid isn't? But none of those have anything to do with what happened last night.

Have you honestly never seen a goal called off because the goalie was impeded but there was no goalie interference call? I've seen it many times.

I remember a game a couple of years ago where Kipper shut out Detroit. The Wings had scored in that game, but the ref disallowed the goal for impeding Kipper.

Here's the box score: http://flames.nhl.com/club/recap.htm?id=2009020363

Notice no goalie interference penalty even though the recap mentions the disallowed goal.

You say that because you don't understand the rules.

Which is ironic that you'd call my posts condescending when you clearly have no idea what you're talking about trying to dispel what I've correctly said.

See section C:

Gagner was shoved into Quick. Regardless this game was exciting and there is no harm in a kid getting excited. If it was a 35 yr old vet it would have been silly. I'm an Oiler fan but if your Sven or whats his name is pull that off against the nucks in the same situation I'd be proud of him. We have the most exciting game in the world as far as I'm concerned and we all should be proud of it.

No, he wasn't. To call that a shove couldn't be more of a stretch. Gagner started out by leaning in to Scuderi.

Kerry Fraser broke it down nicely:

What you should see is that Scuderi approached Gagner from more of a side angle, with contact made to the hip area in an effort to move the Oilers forward laterally and away from his goalkeeper. The immediate pushback reaction from Gagner was to drive forward toward Quick as demonstrated with his upper-body posture bent at the waist in a forward motion, along with a half stride ahead into the crease. Gagner's reaction to the contact by Scuderi does not constitute making a reasonable effort to avoid such contact (with Quick) as highlighted in the rule above.

With the dramatic last second goal by Yakapov I really fail to see why some of you are just unable to accept the right call was made on the ice for the disallowed goal.
