Your hopes will then be crushed. Two way D-men such as Tyler usually take a longer time to develop and he will definitely need some time in Abbottsford, as in a year or two. I wouldn't be surprised to see him stay in the WHL next year in all honesty, and you also have to question if his point production is inflated because he is playing with Seth Jones.
First game with new coach was a 3-2 loss for Granlund and Ortio's HIFK. They gave up 2 quick goals in the beginning and couldn't catch up against a defensive team.
Granlund extended his point streak to 5 games (3g 4a) with a goal. He said after the junior tournament that he prefers to play center and the results seem to bear that out. Luckily for him he's been able to play the position since then. Ortio had just 16 saves. Probably didn't play his best game.
Highlights include Granlund's goal which was a pretty nice shot, and Ville Nieminen scoring two on Ortio. Nemo's been crazy good this season. I don't think anyone expected that from him at this point in his career. http://www.ruutu.fi/ohjelmat/sm-liig...a-hifk-2212013

Wasn't there a Finnish coach who was exiting a plane and wiped out down the stairs because he was hammered or something? I thought it was Sumo....something?
That was former NHL starting goalie Pasi Nurminen. Always been a big fan. He'd had a few drinks too many on the plane after Finland won the world championship in 2011 and landed face-first on the runway. Dude looked like Boris Yeltsin coming down the stairs. Actually made a dent in the tournament trophy with his head. The guy's a legend.
I think Summanen last coached team Finland in the world cup in 2004 where they got silver, and not atypically for him, was dismissed soon after despite the fact that he got the team to play great hockey.
Ladies and gentlemen, Pasi Nurminen:

Was just surfing around the net, looking at past Flames draftees etc, and I'm wondering if the Flames scouts are still keeping tabs on a couple of past Flames picks.
First off, Henrik Bjorklund, who was drafted 111th overall in '09 seems to have made a big jump in production this season. He's never really put up more than 0.50 ppg in his pro career, and all of a sudden this season he's got 36 points in 31 games in Allsvenskan.....one point shy of the league lead.
He's still just 22, big right handed shot at 6'3" 210 lbs.
Secondly, and this ones really off the board, but Alexander Deilert who was a 7th rounder in 2008 has put up some decent numbers this in Allsvenskan as well.
20 points in 37 games has him 5th for all d-men in the league in scoring. He's supposedly a mobile RH d-man with plenty of smarts and puck moving ability. He turns 24 in a couple weeks, and when you think about it, that would be somewhat similar to signing a free agent college player.
I guess he's a top notch golfer and was dividing his time between that and hockey, but has supposedly recently focused his attention 100% to hockey.
Probably nothing to see here, but just thought it was interesting.

It makes you wonder what, if anything, teams say to guys they end up not signing. Would the Flames have said to Bjorklund, "we haven't seen enough from you to offer you a contract but if you develop your game we'll keep you on our radar"? You'd kind of hope the Flames would give this kind of encouragement, and you'd kind of hope that they would still keep some tabs on former picks from time to time, like what we do.
