I think he might give it a whirl after this season. Like everyone has said, he's accomplished pretty much everything in the NCAA. I hope he does

He may do one more season but I would bet he won't go the full four, the kid wants to be a pro player, the flames want him to be a pro...he won't get better playing two more years.

This size "problem" is really getting tiresome, this kid knows how to avoid hits, the best college players try to hit him every week and the best juniors in the world tried to hit him and failed every time.

Are you really going to compare College and Junior players to NHL vets?

If he stepped into the NHL today he would get crushed and it would cripple his development. Let the kid play.

I honestly don't think he would be, he might get tagged, most players do. He'd do fine in the NHL at this point I'd say, I think he's ready.

For the Basketball and Football players, who in terms of public exposure are essentually already professionals, sure... but I'm pretty sure most other college Athletes are significantly lower profile and probably don't have groupies getting all up on their junk every night.

Not all of these schools are big football and basketball programs, for some of them hockey is "the big deal".

Hockey is huge at BC, and you can guarantee that Johnny Gaudreau, stud of the hockey team, hero of the USA world junior team, has got all the bitties on campus clawing at his jockstrap.

BC's Johnny Gaudreau leads the country with 17 primary assists. 89.5% of his assists this season have been primary assists.

That was a fantastic read. Really well written and thought out questions.
Sounds like Johnny appreciates the Flames fans that was awesome that you pointed out we follow him at BC.

Over Basketball AND Football? I highly doubt it.

BC has Division 1 Basketball, Football, and Hockey Teams... I'm sure he's getting way more strange then the average 5'8 skinny kid from Jersey but College Hockey is still small potatoes (well medium potatoes at anyrate) given the Basketball and Football exposure on the national and local market.

Who cares? Boston loves its winners. BC's hockey team are defending champs. He's the best player in the country. He's cleaning up.

I mean every single time you get to watch a highlight package of Johnny Hockey, you gotta pick your jaw up off the table when you're done.

It is so, so, so, so hard to temper expectations with this kid.

I find myself having difficulty doing exactly that. I keep having dreams of him and Sven slaughtering the opposition in years to come.

I find it funny, however, that I live in BC and I'm surrounded by Oilers and Canucks fans. They all rant and rave about this prospect and that prospect. They make it so much harder for me to temper my expectations of Johnny because I'll bring him up and they crap all over him saying he'll be a bust and so on.I jump on his defense and by the end of the conversation I find myself expecting something like 1500 points...

Hobey Baker Watch, Week #14: http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/blog/ey...-watch-week-14

Quote:
1. Johnny Gaudreau -- Boston College

A five-assist weekend keeps Gaudreau in the top spot this week as the BC sophomore continues to dazzle in the offensive zone. Johnny Hockey now has 31 points in 18 games and extended his national lead with 1.72 points-per game. The Eagles have stumbled a little bit of late, but Gaudreau's offense hasn't tailed off a bit. He is as exciting a player as we've seen in college hockey over the last decade.
Here's his ranking each week of the season:

Week #1 : Not in Top 4. In list of others to watch.
Week #2 : Not mentioned
Week #3 : Fourth
Week #4 : Second
Week #5 : Second
Week #6 : Second
Week #7 : First
Week #8 : First
Week #9 : First
Week #10 : First
Week #11 : First
Week #12 : Second
Week #13 : First
Week #14 : First

Really great to see Johnny leading the Hobey Baker rankings!
Looking through the list of old winners, it's really a mixed bag whether they went on to make an impact in the NHL. One interesting comparable is Ryan Duncan, a 5 ft 6 Calgary kid that put up 57 points as a sophomore and won the award in 2007. He played out his college years and went over to europe... never really got a shot in the NHL.

I know it's tough to temper expectations with what Johnny's done so far, but not all of these guys are sure thing NHLers.

Here's the list from the last 20 years:

1993 Paul Kariya
1994 Chris Marinucci
1995 Brian Holzinger
1996 Brian Bonin
1997 Brendan Morrison
1998 Chris Drury
1999 Jason Krog
2000 Mike Mottau
2001 Ryan Miller
2002 Jordan Leopold
2003 Peter Sejna
2004 Junior Lessard
2005 Marty Sertich
2006 Matt Carle
2007 Ryan Duncan
2008 Kevin Porter
2009 Matt Gilroy
2010 Blake Geoffrion
2011 Andy Miele
2012 Jack Connolly

At some schools the hockey program is the big program.

Minnesota, North Dakota, and Boston College all fall into that group.

Ryan Duncan was a Sophomore when he won it, of course his line mates were TJ Oshie and Jonathon Toews.

Duncan's numbers took a hit the next year when Toews left for the Hawks, and another hit the year after that when Oshie left.

I never saw Duncan play, but I'd say its pretty clear he was relying quite heavily on his line mates.

I don't think the same can be said about JG, if anything he makes his line mates better IMO.

Duncan and Miller won as sophmores. Not sure about others but Kariya must have won as a freshman or sophmore because he only played for two years.

A bunch of juniors won it as well.

Ryan Miller and Ryan Duncan are the only sophomores to win it. They were both older sophomores though (Miller was almost 21 and Duncan was almost 22).

Paul Kariya is the only freshman to win the award, and he was 18 when he did so. If Gaudreau wins it, he'll be only the second player under 20 to win.
