I really like this draw and think we have a chance at winning. Milos has beat Almagro both times they have met. Doubles will be tough as Spain has 2 good players. If we can sneak out a doubles win I think we can take this. I am very excited!

Agreed!

Here's Canada's:

Davis Cup @DavisCup

Canada's team to play Spain in the #DavisCup World Group 1st Round: @milosraonic, Vasek Pospisil, Frank Dancevic & Daniel Nestor

I'm a little surprised they didn't switch out Dancevic with Peliwo. Frank's on his last legs.

YAY Pospisil is alive after his mono battle! I hope he is feeling ok. I also wish they went with Peliwo but maybe old Frank can give it a go

With Levine and Peliwo both likely in future folds, this is probably Dancevic's last run at the Davis Cup. And depending on how Canada does, he might not even play.

Almagro is playing? He hurt his leg pretty bad yesterday.

That seems like a pretty weak spanish team.

this should be renamed The Canadian Tennis Thread 2013...we're almost into the semis of a grand slam, but once Milos is out, the Aussie Open is old news and we've already moved on to Davis Cup? granted, I know it's a big deal for our boys to have this home turf thing against a normally powerful Spanish team. I'm just not that super excited for it yet when the absolute top players in the world are going head to head for the next few days.

it's kinda like as if the Stanley Cup finals or Olympic gold medal game is going on, but the Flames/Canada were eliminated already. and then the Flames are participating in an exhibition or scrimmage in a couple of weeks and everyone's suddenly talking only about that...ok maybe not that extreme, but you get the picture.

Yesterday was sort of a slow day at the Open. My feelings on what transpired:

Radwanska lost
Almagro lost
Sharapova won
Djoko won

I think it's just because all of the Davis Cup teams were announced this morning.

Well I am going to the Davis Cup so that makes me much more excited then waking up at 3 am to watch the Aussie (which I have and do). It isn't my fault Australia has a crappy time zone.

The way Almagro lost made it even more hilarious.

I wonder if Ferrer feels bad about smashing his racket after that...

Almagro is Dumb with a capital D. a guy who's known for having a good serve can't serve it out in 3 tries? I can accept the guy doesn't have the nerves, which is why he's never won anything big. but then tapping Ferrer on the leg during the final changeover, to let him know that he wasn't even going to attempt to break back? and then walking to the net for the handshake before Ferrer even put the last forehand away? he even looked way too happy afterwards for a guy that just choked away his one big shot.

do the Spanish players decide beforehand which one of them is going to advance to the semis? that's how it always is when they have to face Nadal, they just lay down like a coat on a rain puddle. this one looked like Almagro wanted to make it dramatic before allowing Ferrer through as planned.

Williams....she's struggling with her back pain. She might not pull this one out. A tremendous match versus Stephens.

Stephens wins! Cool she seems like a nice refreshing personality. The WTA sure needs it.

Can I say that sort of felt like a torch passing without being racist?

Ugh. Well that was scary. I honestly wonder if Fed has the all-time record for unconverted break points. Going to be a tough recovery to face Andy in less than 48h.

Not going to be a very productive work day...

I know exactly what you mean and the race card isn't even a factor. For the longest time, it was basically the Williams sister and Davenport. With Lindsay retired and Serena/Venus hitting 30+, I'm sure the American fans are looking for another female tennis player to root for.

They said yesterday that Serena had never lost an WTA match to an American player younger than her.
