I may as well throw this out there, but a friend and I are planning a skydive at Innisfail in early May to raise money for her Ride to Conquer Cancer. It'll be a tandem jump, and anyone who wants to go as part of a group is free to join!

Not a free skydive. You're still paying for it, though larger groups equal bigger discounts. And you'd be committing to donating a nominal donation ($25) toward the ride, which goes to the Alberta Cancer Foundation. It's mostly for the experience (which is awesome, btw), plus to feel good about throwing yourself out of a plane to fight cancer!

Still sounds like a good idea.

All the money you were paying for premiums has been wasted and you have fraudulently signed a document. Is it worth it to save a few bucks now? Not for me.

The question was have you ever tried skydiving. If you have, then you check yes. It's likely they aren't solely worried about the person jumping out of a plane again, but what that person sees an acceptable risk. Someone who jumps out of a plane is more likely to bungee jump, parasail, hang glide, participate in extreme activities etc. than a person who doesn't, and thus is more likely to die at a younger age. It's the same reason why a sports car costs more than a station wagon.
Not a chance, now if you died skydiving, and it turned out you were secretary of the Calgary skydiving club or the like and had a 10 year history of skydiving granted, but if you went skydiving once 5 years ago and then died of cancer there is no way the Insurance Company would either find out or even look.

I jumped in Bow Island, can't remember the name of the operator but it worked out fine.

I was a student pilot at the time so was more interested in what the (extremely bored) pilot was up to before I jumped. Get out on the strut and do a superman for a moment until the ok to release.

I still vividly remember getting into the arch and watching the plane flying away above for a few seconds. Then a lovely full canopy above me and dead silence other than some wind whipping. Grab the toggles and give them a good pull and away you go.

Glad I tried it, no particular desire to do it again.

Still remember the videos of tangled chutes where they teach you what to do. And the reserve chute procedure. Guess I was really paying attention
