I will make no bones about it - i don't like him as a hockey player. It's maybe because he is -3 vs Anaheim , or that he weekly coughed up the puck with 4 mins left. Or because he let Winnik drive the net uncontested on the 4th goal (yeah, it was a lucky bounce, but still). But most of all, did anyone notice in the game vs San Jose, midway through the 3rd , he was in the slot in the offensive zone, the puck came to him.......he was a bit awkwardly positioned , but he didn't even try to 'right' himself to make a play on the net, but basically just shot it straight into the corner ? He was between the hash marks , not at the point.....this tells me he is :
 A) a really stupid player
 B) has zero offensive ability
 C) is so scared of being hit or any physical contact, he rids himself of the puck as soon as possible.
 D) all of the above

I'm going to say it right now to get it over with. Dion Phaneuf is a better hockey player than Jay Bouwmeester.

Well that was fast. Only two games into this season and a new Bouwmeester thread has been started.

This. Horrible trade by Sutter. I want to go back in time and slap him in the face before he makes that deal.

I was actually going to comment on how one thing that Phaneuf and Regher were good at was clearing the forwards away from their goaltender. Whereas Jay jumps away from his man when the shot is coming, leaving the forward alone.
That and how he always manages to mess up clearing the puck in a penalty kill is what drives me insane.

Terrible game by Bouwmeester tonight. I sure hope Hartley can turn him around this season.

I don't think that's going to happen. I've had very similar complaints as the OP for over two years now. It's not coaching, it's the player.

I've never seen the competitiveness or fire that you'd expect from a so-called top-flight defenseman, and I think it would be wise for the Flames to part ways with him while he still has value.

There is no defending him anymore. There's been plenty of time for him to show his worth and he's fallen short completely. I would not be scared to play hockey against this guy. That great skating would be put to better use in figure skating. Useless.

DiPietro, Lecavalier and Bryzgalov. Term hurts on the latter 2 while the fact that DiPietro doesn't play hurts the first one. Just based on $ per season/value, Bouwmeester has a little room from the bottom.

Except that Adam Lind produces a lot more and costs less in a sport where salaries are like 50% higher....and is still the most useless player on the Blue Jays. I would love the return of Stajan, Mayers, Hagman, and White had it been Bouwmeester sent out of town. Ricardo may get his wish yet.
