Default summer landman jobs

Hey everyone

I've read this website for at least a couple years and must say there's been some pretty snazzy advice given here so I think this is worth a shot.

Just wondering if any of you know about any summer landman jobs available in Calgary or know any landmen that I might be able to try and contact. I'm a 3rd year land student at U of C and have yet to find a job but I suspect if I get the chance to interview I would be hired.

If not I'm basically being exiled to Africa to do some auditing for my dad's business. But this land experience is kind of important.

Thanks for any help!

I didn't know you could do 'Land' in school.

Is it a commerce major? I just firgured you did a basic commerce degree or something and then got hired by a energy company or whatever and then was trained on site.

I am curious... ?

As an undergrad though, eh? Crazy.

I think THAT is what i wish i had done in school... not to say i don't like what i am doing but that seems so... practical. Although i guess one big B*$* and you are out of a job and lose your house and family and dog and...

I know there are definitely Landmen being hired right now, but no idea about 'just for the summer' stuff. I think you can go to the CAPL or CAPLA websites and they might have job postings there.

I think it might be a little too late to try to get a summer job, but I have to ask why?

If I had the choice to take a summer job here or go to Africa i know which one I'd take.

Yeah Africa probably won't be as glamorous as one would assume. The job would be located in a pretty remote country working 14 hour days just reading over financial statements. I need a land job to be able to keep up with my class in terms of experience.

Petroleum land management is a major offered at U of C through business school, just like Finance, Marketing etc etc. U of C is the only school in Canada that offers it and so far it is a really sweet program.

Instead of creating a new topic, anyone who works downtown know of a summer (Mid April/May to Fall) 9-5 unglamorus "busy work" job (ie filing, data entry/summer project type work)?

Not for me, but for a family member (and who's not a student with aspirations to stick on or anything) who just wants to have a regular work week and regular weekends to enjoy the summer weekends. They are obviously reliable, organized, and skilled enough to do basic office work and use a computer etc around any office, and are looking for more of a brain dead job then what they are currently doing, just for the summer, to again, enjoy having a "regular" summer as far as working hours go.

Usually, I know, these are through temp agencies, but thought I'd skip a middleman.

Wage of at least 15$/hr, full time.

PM me.

Would your father be willing to hire others for Africa or was that more a special deal because you are his son? I would be interested in something like that, even if it would mean working 14 hour days.

I'll talk to a few oil and gas clients to see if anything is available. I'm pretty sure someone has something...afterall, I do know a lot of land people...a lot.

So what do I get out of this deal? hehe jk

Oh btw, most "landman" are "landwoman." So you'll have to enjoy working with women..mostly older, but occasionally, there are some young cuties.

I think most landmen are indeed men. Land administrators on the other hand are usually female, it's more of a clerical role and that is where most summer landman students end up working anyway.

Clarkey is right on the money with the land administrators/ landmen thing. Actually it's funny you mention because everywhere I hear, the landman job is kind of more men orientated.

I know Africa would be pretty cool and all, but I wouldn't be able to graduate on time (need to catch up on spring/summer classes), I wouldn't be getting land experience.

I'm meeting a guy this week to talk about a summer job, so if I get it I'll ask my dad if he needs people to go to Africa. Any of you guys have accounting/finance experience?
