Signed up now as well, too bad I don't have a computer to play the game. Guess I'll be buying a new PC tomorrow if I somehow get selected.

Ports paired with industry was always huge revenue and packed areas.
I haven't played Sim city in a long time, but I loved in the second one where the government would lease a military base in the middle of your city. If you were a city on the water it would be navy and you would get destroyers coming into port. Or air force and you would get aircraft taking off and landing.
They always stole from your power grid and water lines.
If you had natural disasters on you'd see a lot of UFO attacks.

Evidently, it's a time limited beta which cuts out after an hour. Kind of lame if you ask me.

No need to hide your shame, Edmontonian. We all know its true.
[All kidding aside, good suggestion. Sorry about that. Done.]

You can re-play it as many times as you want though, easy way to limit exposure to content to a small amount.
Unfortunately I'm away for work all next week and will only have my laptop, so I won't be able to participate in the beta even if I get selected.

It allows them to focus on the early game, rather than have the majority of testing being people trying to build massive things.
Once things are worked out there, I have no doubt they will open that window.

Heh, I would have tested that theory by digging out one of the memory hex editors to see if I could figure out where the time limit was stored.. or failing that where the money was stored. Would have tested to see if they're going to prevent cheating too (which would suck).

ah, i fondly remember the days of the original SimCity and infinite money cheat. start on the biggest plot available, make a ring of industrial around the entire perimeter, a ring of commercial inside that, then tons of residential in the middle. seemed the only way to get a truly massive city

Yeah. The first beta run is Jan. 25-28 and the beta is closed. Time per play session is limited to one hour. You can repeat that as many times as you like if you are selected. You will find out by Jan. 25 if you have been selected.
Beta is PC only, English only.

My stadium is hosting a sports event tonight – might be too much for my bus system!
